When the people up for school board come knocking on my door next year, I plan to ask them these questions:
1. Do you have any children of your own and do or did they go to FCPS schools? 2. Do you have a spouse or family member that is a teacher and do they teach in FCPS schools? 3. What is your educational and employment history and how did those prepare you for a seat on the school board? 4. What are your long term girl goals/motivation for running for a seat on the school board? Basically I am trying to weed out the Karl Frisch's of the world - no children, only looking out for his partner who is a teacher, long-term political goals, doesn't give a shit about education or children. |
I've thought about re-joining the local Democrats so I could vote for more moderate candidates during the endorsement process next year. But, apparently, they won't accept any members who've ever criticized current School Board members, so that probably rules me out, regardless of whether I align more with Democrats than Republicans on most issues. Seems like School Board elections might be a good place for a third party like Forward to establish a presence. Or maybe Independents will have more success next year, although it's been very hard for any candidate who isn't endorsed by a party to get elected. |
What makes you say this? |
I’ve seen recorded clips of agenda items to approve new FCDC members where they veto applications from people deemed unsupportive of the current School Board. It’s become a litmus test. |
|
Questions 1, 2, and 4 are invalid. They make you sound like an OpenFCPSer.
1&2: FCPS is not a club for parents, students, and teachers. We live in a community where all can participate. 3: Absolutely valid. 4: no politician will ever admit to this. People running for president "are focused on their current jobs right now". We all know the drill. Grow up. |
This post makes you sound like Karl Frisch |
| I will never understand why SBs are politically affiliated. |
| Used to be appointed. Also supposed to be nonpartisan at some point in the past. Now it’s Blue No Matter Who/Blue w/o a Clue. |
What exactly has red got you Blue is the only way unless you are a alt right single race supporting kind of person |
Ds in Fairfax were long associated with moderation and good governance. The current Ds on the School Board have tarnished the brand because they stand only for woke ideology and mismanagement. So many will be voted off if they run again. |
Of course not. All the incumbents will win. |
Tell Ilryong Moon, Ted Velkoff and Patty Reed about it. And they all lost after cycles when the School Board hadn’t made utter fools out of themselves. |
I wouldn’t be so sure. Who are the challengers? If they start throwing around “woke ideology”, they’ll lose me. |
Challengers will start to emerge over the coming year. Many of the seats are ripe for the taking. |
| why would any of them even want to continue to be on the SB? |
