Widening 355 in MoCo

Anonymous
This road needs to be widened with another lane in each direction. It needs to be limited access so we can have interchanges. It will do wonders for the traffic in the area.

they are actually going to take away lanes for dedicated bus/rapid transit

What will happen to the thousands of businesses that line it?

No, wait. I have a better idea! Build a really big interstate parallel to 355 where people (like OP!) can drive really, really fast. With interchanges. You could even add express lanes.

Please show a single example where widening a road alleviate car traffic over time. Just one.

It doesn't matter how wide 355 gets if they keep putting in hundreds upon hundreds upon hundreds of new homes everywhere, which puts thousands of new cars on the road. It's just not sustainable.

Yay! MoR CaRz PLz!!!!

We need to make it 100x worse for driving, not better. F car culture.

This. They're taking away one lane out of 3 each way, to add a bus line that will run.. literally feet from the Red line metro train just beside it.

If Elrich loses, hopefully this project will be cancelled.

So there will be two lanes each way of car traffic and two lanes each way of public transport. Sounds fair!

Clearly some trolling/bait.

But.... the lack of resilience in the road network is a major problem in MoCo.

355 through downtown Bethesda is turning into a predictable traffic disaster. In fact, densification of 355 instead of 270 is pretty dumb and its going to look dumber as time goes on.

A lot of Bethesda has a lane of 355 or 187 (Old Georgetown) closed due to construction. An another lane is closing for years for Purple Line station work:

How many people use busses to shop at the big box stores on 355.. I would have to walk to a ride on stop (which does not run with any frequency), ride a ride on to 355.wait for a second bus, rude to store and reverse to go home. Or just take my car.

It is only fair if they also add 3 feet on each side for bike lanes too.
