What’s the plan in MD if the tax base decides to leave?

Virginia isn’t very far away with New Democratic governor in control and Moco going even further to the left

Yes, the tax base might up and leave. They just might.

We like it here. Why don't you move to Virginia OP?

who is the new Dem Gov you speak of?

Why would anyone move to Republican Youngkinville right now?

Why would anyone want to pay taxes to be prevented from getting health care or potentially travelling (where women are concerned)?

If anything, this move may gain Maryland new residents and tax payers, not drive them away.

The tax base is already leaving Montgomery County. Don't know about the state.

"For the five years from January 2016 through December 2020, the county actually lost 514 (or 0.5%) jobs in the Professional and Business Services industry (North American Industry Classification System Code 1024).

Across the river, Fairfax County gained 10,939 jobs (5.2%) in that same industry. That is a stunning difference for two counties so geographically proximate and similar in many key respects. "

This happened while VA was under democratic leadership, not it's not. We will see what happens in the next four years.

Just more pressure to build bridges to Virginia for work as folks seek cheaper housing (and convince themselves MCPS is still that once great public school system of decades ago). Otherwise the same trajectory of Venezuela on one side and Austin on the other will remain. My bet: this delta will stay the same or slightly accelerate.

Increase taxes. That's the solution to all problems.

No one's moving to sh*thole virginia.

Um, a lot of people are leaving or want to leave. Our friends and their 200k remote HHI escaped Gaithersburg and relocated to Fairfax, where they enjoy kind, non judgmental neighbors, safety, and lower taxes.
We would move to VA too if there were biotech jobs there.

I can guarantee that's what Moore and Elrich will do after they win their elections.

oh so not all the jobs moved to NoVa, then?

BTW, I voted for Blair and Perez. I thought about moving to NoVa (I wfh permanently), but I'm gonna now wait to see how VA ends up with Youngkin and the future.

There is zero chance that Maryland will be more attractive to substantial taxpayers unless the current TP crowd gets real.

Va's current Governor is not going to change too much. If you are a radical moderate, VA at the moment is considerably more attractive.
