Masks in the fall?

Anonymous
Has anyone heard about mask optional for the fall at their schools? I am hoping for an announcement of mask optional as we would like to continue to wear our masks. Just wondering! We have not yet heard from our schools.

You honestly think your schools will say 'no masks allowed'?

What school has told you you couldn’t wear a mask? I’ve never heard of that.

I highly doubt that anyone will stop you from electing to wear a mask if you so choose (unless you are at some super conservative school). You do you. Others will make their own choice. Hopefully people can start to respect the choice others make for themselves.

You can wear a mask if you want, just don’t force everyone to do it.

Technically many schools have always been mask optional, but no one wanted the option.

You can keep wearing your masks they won't announce for you to stop wearing it anyway.

I was fully expecting this thread to be about requiring masks. You do you OP, no one will care if your kid wears one but my kid won’t be. She has enough speech issues with masks the last 2 years. No thanks.

No school in the DMV is going to ban masks.

Teacher here. We are sorting classes based on who will be wearing masks, and which families unmasked last year. If you don’t get the teacher you want, too bad.

I know it’s been a very difficult few years for teachers but this is unnecessary. Wear your mask if you want, I’ll still be wearing mine, but no reason to be nasty about those who make another choice.

this is odd - you're implying the "better" teachers are going to the fully masked kids? Troll.

All this means is we will have masked classes an unmasked classes for those who choose. Students can choose whether or not they want to wear a mask, and they will be placed in the appropriate class.

No one who is a competent teacher or admin would think this is a good idea. You are going to end up with classes that are unbalanced in all the ways that matter. Some kids need to be with a cherished friend, others are like oil and water and need to be separate. Kids who need support or challenge need to be placed with the teacher best equip to provide it, and types of personalities (quiet vs outgoing, etc) need to be balanced, and there’s more. Huge disservice to all the kids (and the teachers who will have to manage unbalanced classes) to divide classes based on masking.

And some schools, like mine, only have one class per grade….
