I had the little smoked salmon tea sandwich at Kafe Leopold the other day and can't stop thinking about it. They're just white bread sandwiches with the crusts cut off and cut in quarters but I can't remember what all the layers were. Also there is like zero air between each layer -- not sure how they pull that off. Anyway, I can't make one. So freakin' good. Who else has these that are this good, so I don't have to drive into Georgetown? Or how do I make one at home?

SandWICH not sandwhich.... get that out of the way. |
They are usually bread, smoked salmon (lox type), and cream cheese. Sometimes plain cream cheese, sometimes herbed. You can also add cucumbers if you want (the English or Persian type, sliced very thinly). |
I believe the word for you is SandWITCH, unless you're OP. |
I am OP. I was trying to get that out of the way before anyone else swooped in for the kill. ![]() |
A little dill is good with it.

Yes, chop it up and mix it into your cream cheese. |
So you foiled the sandwitch! You are a powerful force indeed. |
OP I make this all the time.
Whole Foods sells it premade in the fresh seafood section I think the brand is Ivy Smoke House out of Baltimore. So yay local products. You can add thinly sliced cucumbers I do so good. |
Ivy City Smoke House is not out of Baltimore; they are located in the Ivy City neighborhood of DC. I've seen their smoked salmon in Whole Foods, but I've never seen their premade tea sandwiches. OP, this sounds delicious. I'm about to make this now for a late lunch; I think I'll add some red onion. |
Their tea sandwiches are great. The wait staff are pretty good and will probably tell you what's in the sandwich if you ask. Someone on the table next to ours was eating a great-smelling pasta dish, and the server told us what was in it. I think it was the zucchini-garlic pasta. |
Their menu says they are smoked salmon and cucumber salad, which probably includes a lot of things others have mentioned (dill, red onion, etc) Maybe make something like this?

Add avocodo if u want. |
Maybe they get the air out by pressing the sandwich down with a spatula? |
The bread seems still fluffy. It's totally white bread. Mysterious. |
