| How many crabs would an older teen or and adult usually eat in a sitting? |
| Hugely depends on the person. 1-5? |
1 crab as a meal? Maybe if they’re served as a side dish. |
| 3 large. You’ll have extra, but it’s better than running out. |
Ps I pick the extras and use them in omelets the next morning. |
| What size crabs? First timers or Marylanders? |
|
If they're authentic Marylanders:5-8
Everyone else 1-3. |
|
I think 3 per person is fine, but you need to have lots of sides. If you end up with one or two people who only eat 1-2 crabs, the crab lovers will happily take the extras. Leftover meat can go into breakfast as a previous poster said.
If there are first-timers, have a backup main just in case, something that can make easy leftovers. |
| Even in Maryland, it’s good to have burgers and plenty of sides. In any group there will be some people who don’t care for crabs at all and some people who will just have one and want something else. This is good because it balances your people who eat like 8 crabs. |
Burgers?! The extras are fried chicken, corn on the cob and coleslaw. If the crabs are decent size and we have no teens, we usually do 3 per person, but it really depends on your crowd. I eat 1 typically while my teens est 6-8. |
1? Why bother? |
| I would plan on 6-10 per person. Teens will eat up to 10 and regular adults/kids will eat in the 6-8 range. Newbies will give up after 1 and focus on sides so maybe have some barbecue pork ready for them to make sandwiches. |
| Just a heads up, crabs this year are expensive and crappy. |
as high as 400$/#1 |
The notion that Marylanders have a monopoly on love for crabs is ludicrous. Marylanders love Old Bay, not crab. |
