Political Discussion
Look, the "they rape our women!" call has been weaponized to promote violence toward certain groups since time immemorial. The legend of a dirty unwashed brown Arabs raping the flower of the Israeli youth is made from the same cloth. When in reality, brown women have had much more to fear from white men than white women from brown men. It doesn't matter that some Israelis are browner than some Arabs. The way this groups are represented in the public discourse is absolutely as civilized, benign, innocent group vs irrational, violent, backwards aggressor. |
Yes definitely this is a commonly misused and weaponized trope. And, sexual violence was perpetrated on Oct 7. We need to speak about truth, and that absolutely did happen. I do not deny that atrocities have been committed by IDF. And atrocities have also been committed by Hamas. Please do not minimize that. |
OK, so you deny what Hamas did. Let's leave that aside. Does the ceasefire apply to them? If Hamas is really just a gentle bunch of peace advocates then it shouldn't be a problem for them to abide a ceasefire. Right? |
Is that a no - only Israel has to do a ceasefire, not Hamas? |
I think it is entirely possible that sexual violence has occurred on Oct. 7. I think that Israel has not delivered evidence of large-scale weaponized violence to the degree that they have advertised it. If you read the actual language of the UN report, it refutes more allegations than it substantiates. It also continues to cite the discredited "first responders" aka ZAKA. The timing of their emphasis on this part of the assault is also strategic in light of the IJC movement. In short, there is actual information about what has transpired And then there are efforts to weaponize this information that have nothing to do with facts and numbers. |
NP. Both sides need to do a ceasefire. That is what the talks about moving towards. At this point Israel is a larger aggressor. |

I have come to hate DEI This is basically exactly what the Hamas supporters on DCUM say, too. |
I had three cousins killed by a Hamas suicide bombing in Haifa. Seeing this morons claiming bombing a restaurant (which was Arab owned) is “resistance” nauseates me |
| This person probably doesn't own a passport. I cannot even believe how ignorant this is. |
I am really sorry PP. For the loss, and the cruelty. |
No, a cease fire - by definition - involves all parties. Zionists demanding that others follow “the rules” of anything just makes me laugh aloud at the hypocrisy. |
Now you're mad that some of us want a ceasefire to apply to both sides of this terrible war? |
I think it is likely that there was some sexual violence on 10/7, whether or not it included rape. It's estimated that 3,000 militants (not all of them Hamas) crossed over from Gaza on 10/7. If we assume the usual figure of ~4% of the population having antisocial personality disorder, that means 120 sociopaths in the mix. Since antisocial personality disorder is three times more common in men than in women, and the militants appear to have been entirely male, the number could be higher. The IDF is also accused of torture, sexual violence, and hideous ongoing atrocities toward Palestinians. Sadly, the lawless, anarchistic nature of conflict and the situations of asymmetrical power it creates allow the dregs of humanity to get away with repugnant behaviors. Pramila Patten, who wrote a short report on sexual violence on 10/7, obtained nearly all her information from Israeli sources, and she was invited by Israel to investigate. Her brief report is often misrepresented on social media. It should be noted that Israel refuses to cooperate with the official UN investigation on the matter. Patten also spoke to Palestinians in the West Bank about sexual violence by IDF forces and settlers. Patten's report includes the following: "This information will complement information already verified by other UN entities on allegations of CRSV in Gaza and the occupied West Bank for potential inclusion in the annual Report of the Secretary-General on Conflict-Related Sexual Violence." Patten's report is at https://www.un.org/sexualviolenceinconflict/press-release/israel-west-bank-mission/ Mondoweiss has a rebuttal at https://mondoweiss.net/2024/03/heres-what-pramila-pattens-un-report-on-oct-7-sexual-violence-actually-said/ |
Exactly. If someone is still firing then it's not a ceasefire. Hamas needs to stop firing rockets if they want a ceasefire. It's astounding that some dope upthread thinks that's not necessary for a ceasefire or that it's a "distraction." |
