Anyone else disgusted by flip-flops in public? The mere sound of them makes me uneasy

That smacking sound in public makes my skin crawl. I don’t understand how you can be so shameless and low class that you would wear these disgusting things in public letting all the dirt and germs go all over your feet and toes. Not to mention nobody wants to see your feet. The beach, I get it. But in public, during the week, walking around dirty streets, running errands, on an airplane, and out to eat — nasty as hell.

If a sound disgusts you, you might have a sensory processing disorder or misophonia.

No, but I am grossed out by men wearing flip-flops. lol I know it's dumb but I have a think about men showing their feet. ick. Okay, yes the beach is one thing but I don't want to see men's toes other than that.

So many of them have toe nail fungus and unkempt long toe nails. Keep those things out of sight!

It’s not my favorite sound, but it doesn’t get under my skin like it does for you. What I actually hate more is the sound of Crocs, at least how my nephew wears them. He kind of drags his foot forward so they don’t fall off and his sweaty foot flips around in there making a squeak. I’ll take a flip flop over that.

If there is one thing DCUM has taught me, it's that there are people out there who are triggered by nearly everything. Relax, people.

Lol, agree that you have issues OP. I live on west coast and lots of people wear flip flops, sandals and even go barefoot.

Wow! This is one that has never crossed my mind.

I actually love that sound. It’s kind of like how I like the sound of mowing grass in the background. Are people quietly walking across the yoga studio. Hopefully I don’t need therapy for my love of flip-flop smacking sounds 🤣

I'm the PP who mentioned misophonia, and I actually have misophonia. I absolutely cannot stand the sound of a certain type of fabric or when people drag their feet while they run on a treadmill. So I carry around noice-cancelling headphones and leave an area when need be. It's not really something I can relax away.

Of course, I am well aware that it would be bizarre for me to rant about the sounds these people make and tell people to stop making them, lol.

You need therapy, OP.

Have you ever been to the southern part of US? Ever?

The smacking sound is the sound of germs, bacteria, dirt, debris and wet and dried urine and garbage juice being flung into the air and onto their feet.

Same here. There are sounds that fill me with rage, actually. But I don't project class judgments on people who make those sounds. There are places where flip-flops are not appropriate, but in terms of hygiene, they aren't that different from many other types of sandals. Some people's feet are gross, but others keep their feet clean and their nails trimmed.
