I am single and would like to learn about places I can travel with just my dog. I have an Australian Shepherd, very well behaved. Anyone have experience or suggestions? |
Some Air BnBs allow dogs. Some state parks do as well. Pennsylvania and Maryland are out - not dog friendly at all. WV and Va have dog friendly cabins. |
Hilton Head is dog friendly |
Litchfield beach, SC. |
Dewey Beach allows dogs on the beach after hours. |
Stanton, VA. Very dog-friendly town with good restaurants too. You can hike and eat outside with your dog at many places. The hotel right in the middle of town, Hotel 24 South (formerly Stonewall Jackson Hotel), allows dogs and is very dog friendly. We went there as a last-minute getaway years ago when we had just gotten a puppy and could not believe how dog-friendly everything was. We now have two dogs and enjoy every trip. Cape Cod! The national seashores near P-Town allow dogs all the time—it’s so nice to be able to bring my dog to the beach during the day, not just before 9 am like so many beaches. |
Burlington, Vermont is very dog friendly |
Canaan Valley, WV |
People in Maine loved our dog. So many people spoke to my DH when he had the dog with him. OP, we have a 40 pound dog. A few things that surprised us that we were able to do with our leashed dog: a bus tour of Salem, Ma. A ferry out of Quebec City. A ferry to Mackinac Island Mi. On the island, a horse drawn carriage ride. Restaurant patio seating most places. |
Stowe, VT - near Dog Mountain
Duck, NC |
Agree with the PP tvat mentioned Dewey Beach. I would go in the summer for a dog centric trip personally but off season Dewey and Rehoboth are very dog friendly. I’ve also been to Provincetown in Cape Cod with our dog and we had a great time. |
“ wouldn’t go in the summer” that should say |
Off Season Dog Friendly isn't really saying much. Wish more states would follow Cape Cod's example ~ all year |
This is a great resource:
