With the exception of kids who want all the things mentioned in this thread…and those schools can be really dull, sorry.

And they won’t be paying 30-50 thousand bucks in property taxes to wear Canada Goose jackets for 5 months of the year.

But seriously I don't know any teen who aspires to live in Alabama or Kentucky.

Believe it or not, there is a nascent and growing start-up culture in Alabama. Things are changing.

It's the other way around looking at the acceptance rates for schools like NYU, BC, BU, NU, Tufts.

You would be very surprised. With the merit offered, really smart kids are foregoing top ranked schools to save for med / law school and PhD programs. These schools cater to high stats kids and provide amazing opportunities.

UGA is a lot cheaper than UMich. Is it worth it? I don't know.

These two schools aren’t that different.

Objective people can see the Democrats have created huge problems their party is dominated by people in their mid 80’s The US is center-right country, JFK, Bill Clinton, Al Gore, LBJ would not be nominated in todays Democrat Party. The party is run by coastal elites who look down at the rest of the country.

Yes, the democrats screwed the pooch. If time on the last election, it was an epic implosion.

The blue states were fools and so rest of the country elected a mentally ill narcissist who along with another mentally ill narcissist is proceeding to destroy our reputation and create problems that could take decades to fix.

So let’s go to college in the states that elected the fools doesn’t seem like a well thought out position.

Nonsense. There are tons of good schools in the south - Duke, Vanderbilt, Rice, UVA, Texas, UNC, Davidson, Emory, Georgia Tech. A lot of bright students prefer those schools over some bleak and depressing college in New England or the Rust Belt. Plus Nashville and Austin are a lot more blue than the areas around Cornell or Williams. 5 minutes away from those schools is MAGA central.

Would you send your kid to UGA over UMich?

I would let my kid pick the school he liked best. We have toured both and kid liked both. My kid prefers Michigan, but would be happy at either school.

The Southern schools, in particular UGA an UTK, are so much harder to get into now than they were 4 years ago.

The schools aren’t very different but the student cohort is…Michigan is 50% kids from Michigan, Georgia is 80% kids from Georgia.

We recently did an admitted student day at Michigan and we sat with/met kids from Mass, NY and California. Maybe they put all the out of state kids together. When we toured UGA, most were in-state.

I suspect half of the people deriding these southern schools have never visited. I have 3 kids and over the last 5 years have visited schools in the NE, Midwest and South. The vibe is amazing at the southern schools. The campuses are really nice. There are lots of normal kids here. There are lots is really smart kids doing amazing things at these schools too. The NE top20 schools had stressed out, nerdy looking kids everywhere.

My DH had some pretty unflattering things to say about UGA. We didn't listen and still did a visit b/c we know some people who have chosen it. The campus was gorgeous, the tour guides were fantastic and Athens seemed like a great place to spend 4 years. We haven't gone back for DawgDays and I would like to hear from DC's specific school, but it's nothing like what my DH had imagined in his head.
