Smoked out implies he did something wrong. He didn’t.

Took him four days - FOUR DAYS to come out and admit that he personally signed off.

And how many days did Trump have to return the stolen docs? Hmmm?

Why didn't Garland address the nation Monday?

He is not legally required to do so, my precious. He said today that he waited for Trump to talk about it first, which implies Garland would not have spoken if Trump had kept his mouth shut - it is the policy of DOJ to say as little as possible about active investigations as possible. But given Trump had his little whine-fest, and triggered morons like you, Garland decided he could give a presser. You'll notice that true to DOJ policy, he gave as little info as humanely possible.

And when YOU run afoul of the law, he will offer you the same courtesy.

Sources confirming FBI siezed materials classified as Top Secret. Trump isn’t going to find the Alexandria Detention Center to his liking. No hamberders.

IF this is a big deal and shows Trump was colluding with Russia (which is what all you LWNJ are saying), then why has it been all nicey nicey for weeks between Trump and DOJ until now. If, on the other hand, this is about returning documents to the national archives, then this is so much overreach that it is in fact the bullying of a potential political rival. Garland said the warrant was necessary because it wasn't possible to any other route. He is saying that this was the ONLY way to move ahead. Garland just put himself into a tiny box.

My interpretation of that this statement is that Trump was asked to cooperate and refused.

But he hasn't refused. In fact, he was cooperating with them.

What does this mean? You and I take a bunch of TS files home, nobody is giving us chances to “bring them back” or “cooperate”.

Let’s review shall we? They discovered he had left with documents. They produced a subpoena to look for items. They removed the items earlier in the year. They realized there was still missing stuff. They asked again nicely via subpoena. Trump said “maybe, but I guess you can put a padlock on it”. So the FBI goes and asks for a warrant because what the heck else were they supposed to do.

Can I have the source for this? A direct quote would be good.

The subpoena for these records was over a month ago. Some of the stuff was classified information. ]What else is one supposed[b to assume Trump is saying other than “maybe”. I will take him at his word that he didn’t just say “no.”

Again, if it was you or me, we wouldn’t have had an opportunity for a month to ignore a subpoena requiring the return of highly classified information that we had improperly taken.

Is there a direct quote where he said what you said he said or is the bolded what you meant?

The President retains his clearance and can declassify anything he wants. And did. Publicly stated.

At this point, a huge percentage of the American people do not, and will not, believe anything that's said.

Garland had to come out and speak because so much misinformation was being vomited into the mediasphere.

For example, regarding whether Garland personally approved the search, Bill Arkin, who used to be a good reporter, wrote something for Newsweek claiming Garland didn't know the search was happening.

When you do something so unprecedented, you tell the American people why that day. Waiting four days allows misinformation to flourish.

Oh so now it’s the Attorney General’s fault that Republicans lie all the time? Neat.

If he had declassified all of it there would be a proper paper trail, and he still couldn’t take them with him because they’re the property of the U.S. Government.

What do you mean "admit"? Didn't everyone assume he personally signed off? It would have been a shocker if he hadn't.

Wray was taking the hit, as was the judge. Again, why four days?

Why ever? There's no timeline because normally the FBI and DOJ don't explain themselves. Because normally respectable politicians don't say dumb loony stuff on behalf TFG.

That's the very definition of fascism - a police state that goes after citizens and doesn't have to explain why.

No, dear, it's not. They don't give press conferences to explain what they're doing because they explain through motions, through court documents. In the court of law rather than the court of public opinion.

“When you do something so unprecedented, you tell the American people why that day. Waiting four days allows misinformation to flourish” blames DOJ for the flourishing misinformation. It’s like “why do you have to make me so angry that I hit you?”

It’s an article reporting that Trump may not give the court permission to release the warrant and the property receipt after DOJ has agreed to do so.

The DOJ explained everything it needed to a federal magistrate judge. And yet John Barron still walks free, with a presumption of innocence and his due process rights intact. That’s how our legal system has worked for more than two centuries. Doesn’t seem like much of a “police state.” Investigations are conducted openly and the public’s right to know certain things is sometimes limited, such as matters involving grand juries conducted in secret. Law enforcement doesntly comment on ongoing investigations. But you do you.
