The DOJ explained everything it needed to a federal magistrate judge. And yet John Barron still walks free, with a presumption of innocence and his due process rights intact. That’s how our legal system has worked for more than two centuries. Doesn’t seem like much of a “police state.” Investigations are conducted openly and the public’s right to know certain things is sometimes limited, such as matters involving grand juries conducted in secret.
