We had to cancel our plans this summer and pull kids out of sports. Three kids in three sports with all the taxiing them too and from games and practices was eating our food budget. All three had to be pulled although the older two said they sit out and let the youngest go…that’s sweet but not fair

Biden’s economy has lowered our standard of living

You sound like an irresponsible loser that had more kids than you could afford.
I thought conservatives want people to take responsibility.
Well, get to it.

You sound like someone who doesn’t have kids bc you couldn’t find anyone desperate enough to mate with you to actually have kids.

And if you chose to live in a place where you have to drive everywhere and ferry your kids everywhere, then that isn't anyone's fault but your own. Some of us made sacficices to live close to where we work and play so we don't have to pay too often for gas.

Typical DC response. Most people can’t afford to live in DC or close. They sacrifice so they can find something affordable . The rich dc elite are lucky they get to live close.

Most people in real America are suffering. This person sounds like a good parent who is hit hard by democrat run economy

DC people have no idea how the rest of the country lives. Nor do they care. What makes the PP with the 3 kids a “conservative” who the next pathetic PP undermines? If you don’t agree with my stance - I will attack you. Horrible people.

I’m posting from the Midwest. I don’t care what party you are. Don’t have kids you can’t afford and whine about it.
I’m sick of whiners.

I’m sick of whiner DuluthUnurbanMoms coming on here with their insufferable opinions and worthless opinions

I’ll remember that when I drop my kid off at ALL OF THE ACTIVITIES they are doing.

Sad thing is that pp seems to have been doing just fine "affording" the kids she had until now.... thanks to Biden and his policies.
So, she is making the choice to feed her kids instead of having them do the activities they have been able to afford... until now.
The thing is.... there are likely millions more like her. We are all making changes in our family budgets because of today's economy.
That does not mean that she cannot afford her kids. She has every right to whine about the economy because much of it has been mismanagement by the current administration.

Worst president ever!

Why do you assume any of us are in big houses with big yards in DC? Some of us live in apartments or small condos. We make sacrifices so we don't have to drive everywhere.

Biden is not responsible for the cost of good nor the cost of gas. That is capitalism. If you don't like it, move to Sweden, where gas is even more expensive.

Right. They were totally fine with everything until a global pandemic caused chaos.

Ah, yes.....

All the bad economic news today is because of the pandemic.
You are a few months behind. That was the excuse Joe was using 4 or 5 months ago. He's moved on to blaming other things now.

The supply chain is still disrupted.
Yes - stimulus has caused inflation… but what was the alternative? People needed to eat during the first waves of the pandemic.
I get it, many people don’t care. They would rather kids starve than deal with high gas prices.

The "American Rescue Plan" didn't rescue Americans at all.
Economists tried to warn Biden. Republicans tried to warn Biden.
He didn't listen. Instead, he doubled down and tried mightily to add another 3 Trillion to the debt.
Thank goodness Manchin and Sinema put a halt to that folly.

When you blame the president for gas or food prices you simply reveal your ignorance. You are simply spouting Fox talking points like a weak robot. How come when things go wrong under a Republican administration it’s Democrat’s fault and when things go wrong under a Democratic administration it’s the Democrat’s fault? Some of you need to get a better understanding of how economics work and y’all need to read up a little more on current events.

When Vox even acknowledges it, there must be some truth to it...

That is: The US did a lot more stimulus than these other countries, and now it’s seeing a lot more core inflation. And the stimulus that most stands out is Biden’s $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan — because it was enacted after more than $3 trillion had already been spent to stimulate the economy under Trump, with one big chunk of that being approved just three months prior.

“We put gasoline on the fire. That’s basically what the ARP did. It was almost written as if we didn’t just pass a trillion-dollar stimulus in December,” said Goldwein.

This core inflation divergence between the US and comparable countries continued into 2022, as Jason Furman, an economics professor at the Harvard Kennedy School and former chair of the Council of Economic Advisers under President Barack Obama, pointed out on Twitter (though it’s also worth noting Europe has been hit by rising energy and food costs after the Ukraine invasion). The case that the American Rescue Plan contributed to inflation has three parts: its size, its timing, and the details of its spending.

First, the size: $1.9 trillion. Many economic analysts at the time argued that this was too big. saying their models showed so much new spending (on top of trillions already spent) wasn’t necessary to stimulate the economy, and risked overheating it and causing inflation. “I was on the expansionary side of every fiscal debate of my life up until last year,” said Furman. “But quantities matter. It can’t just be that more is better.”

In early 2021, a group of 10 Republican senators had proposed a $618 billion stimulus as a counteroffer to Biden’s. But Democrats, haunted by what they believed to have been policy mistakes from the Obama administration, rejected this, and decided going as big as they could was preferable to possibly spending too little.

“The sweet spot, I think, might have been a $300-500 billion American Rescue Plan,” said Strain. “That could have given us a lot of the benefits of the ARP without sparking such rapid price growth. The ARP was so big that the kind of marginal dollar went to inflation, not to increased economic output.”

Second was timing: that money was mostly spent quickly (about half was spent last year), rather than spread out over a longer period of time. This sent a lot of money flowing into the economy last year — which was the goal — except supply couldn’t keep up, and prices rose.

Third was composition: what the plan included. Much of the ARP’s spending did quite a lot to help people in need, with child poverty and child hunger falling. But other parts were not well-targeted. $350 billion was allotted to state and local governments under the outdated assumption that they’d be facing budget crises, but by early 2021 it was already clear most states weren’t facing such crises. (The White House official argued that while many states might not have needed the money, cities still did, and that these funds have been spent more slowly, so they probably haven’t contributed to inflation much yet.)

The checks were another issue. Birthed out of a political promise Democrats made to one-up Trump and try to win the Georgia Senate runoffs, the checks totaled about $400 billion in spending, and some of them went to families whose finances were already in fine shape. Giving money to people who don’t need it isn’t necessarily a bad thing in and of itself. But if the consequences are higher inflation and economic woes affecting everyone, well, it is a big deal.

OMG + 100000. Anyone who truly believes that stimulus plan was good is an idiot. I mean, each family got a bit. It's helpful but not that helpful. And from the government's perspective it was not a little bit but a big big bag of $$ that went out. ROI was not enough to justify the means. Now we are in deep trouble. Biden has a way of digging the hole. He's a nice enough guy - personally I find him very decent and I'm sure his heart's in the right place but governing wise - nope. Not effective.

I'm a Dem and hate the GOP but while I hate Trump and he has his own mess of mistakes, it doesn't excuse Biden of his.

Not that COVID was his fault or so many supply chain issues either but once inherited, it was up to him to govern wisely and I don't think he did at all. He gets elected and paid to do better than us mere mortals. He did not.

We are in so much trouble and it will take years to dig out of this mess what with Ukraine going on. And talking about China/Taiwan as he did - good God. Just shut up and don't talk about stuff you don't need to talk about. Why stir the pot with China of all countries? Like we don't have enough on our plate.
