8th grader who is 15?

DD just mentioned a classmate is 15. Is that common around here?

Redshirting is very common around here. This classmate is one year behind.

In kindergarten, DS told me that his classmate was 8. I was pretty shocked. I later learned that kid told all sorts of stories.

I know a family who redshirted their child born in May. He graduated from HS this month at age 19.

He was 15 at the end of 8th grade, but not the beginning.

There was a news report on channel 7 of a HS student who was 20 in VA. He was arrested for video taping a girl who was taking shower. He was a Binky (many times I guess).

My son has some kids in his second grade class who have just turned 9. They will be 15 as they finish 8th grade.

My 1st grader had two 8 year olds in her class in the spring. She's still only 6. It's weird. And those kids were the worst behaved too.

I live in Baltimore and many private schools have a pre-first year between kindergarten and first grade. My DS is in school with boys nearly two years older than he was.

LOL, yes. I remember the one who went up with his dad in a plane and dropped bombs on his back yard. My child was very disappointed that he wasn't allowed to do that.

You only need to be held back once (or redshirted) to be 15 in June of 8th grade. I definitely went to school with kids who were 15 in middle school (and one who was 16 and upset that he couldn't drive to school).

Before you redshirt keep in mind that it’s much harder to parent a 20-year-old senior…

Before you redshirt or not, do some math.

My redshirted kid will be 18 when he graduates because his birthday is July, but if he was born in the later winter or spring (the earliest I've seen redshirting) he'd be a young 19.

My non redshirted kid will be 17.

So, no 20 year olds.
