Fortunately, my daughter has never liked sandwiches, so we haven't missed bread too much since she was diagnosed as gluten intolerant, but once in a while, she'd like an egg sandwich, or French toast, or a dinner roll. I'd like to buy GF bread or rolls to keep in the freezer and defrost 1-2 pieces as needed. But we've used trial and error (lots of errors) to find our favorites for so many other GF products that we use regularly, I don't want to do go through it for bread.
Recommendations for a kid friendly (close to our old white whole wheat) GF bread? |
| Commercially available gluten-free bread is not very nutritious in general. It’s mostly rice flour. The best brand is Canyon bakehouse but be prepared for sticker shock at nine dollars a loaf. I typically make a rice free recipe with multi grain flours but it doesn’t work very well and it’s a pain in the butt. Your best bet is to switch to corn tortillas where you can and make bread a once in a while thing. |
| We like the Schar, available at Giant |

Simple Kneads
Canyon Bakehouse in a pinch. Look for brands without tapioca and cornstarch in first few ingredients. They are difficult to digest. You may need to go to MOMS, Yes, or Whole Foods. You can also try the local gf bakeries. Most gluten free bread is eh. |
Anna Bs In Richmond is really yummy. For all of the white bread versions toast first. Canyon Bakehouse Hawaiian bread is good. |
| Whole Foods has frozen hamburgers rolls that are pretty close normal. You can pull them out one at time. |
| trader joes is best I think |
| Use gluten free challah for french toast. |

I am currently going through the tasting stage. My husband brought home some Schar artesian white. No trigger but I don't like the taste. I think it will make good pain perdue and maybe garlic bread but it definitely is not good for grilled cheese. I only ate the middle.
There is a bakery outlet where we live. I will try the Canyon Bakehouse. Since I only eat toasted bread I don't care if it isn't fresh. |

I have been happy with everything I have purchased at The Happy Tart in Falls Church. They have an assortment of different breads.

| Happy Campers is also good. |
| Canyon Bakehouse |
| Canyon bakehouse is sort of garbage. But it’s prob what’s most available in Safeway/Giant. |
| Trader Joe’s has good GF bread, bagels and hamburger buns. |
| Canyon Bakehouse is the only one I’ve found that is edible untoasted and isn’t dry. Once in a blue moon I want a PB&j, and it has to be on Canyon. |
