How to get over my fear of putting my kids in childcare

I want to go back to work, but I have this crazy irrational fear of putting my kids in childcare. I’m afraid they’ll choke, fall, etc…but also bigger things like be sold, murdered, abused.
Is this just part of being a parent? I’ve been home with my kids for a while now but want to go back to work but im worried. I leave them with babysitters and in the church nursery but full time care terrifies me. (That case in NYC where the nanny killed her charges haunts me, ugh). |

Is this Op? Ok that in that case, just tell yourself nothing is going to happen. Statistically, nothing will. I felt the same way as you but on a lower level. Didn’t worry that kids would be killed but that they wouldn’t be treated great. So I stayed home. There are trade offs- less money but peace of mind. |

That nanny murder story is old and the parents were totally negligent. Just last week a daycare worker killed a toddler by leaving him in the car all day.
Hire a great nanny with amazing references and install cameras. Our nanny is beyond wonderful and would die for my kids. I have to admit through that I have a lot of fears about my kids starting elementary schooler (the shootings). |

| I was nervous with my first child. I wouldn’t let our nanny drive him anywhere and always checked up on her. Eight years and two kids later and I’d trust my nanny to take my kids to a foreign country! Trust grows and is definitely earned. I don’t doubt that daycare is the same. |

| Check county childcare violations website. Many have minor paperwork violations, but a few have bigger violations. Talk to other moms for recs. It will be fine. |

| I was not worried about the things you are, but I did worry about them being abused or neglected, so DH and I got a nanny and had nanny cams in our house. It's worked out just fine. |

| OP, I'm shocked by the responses on here fear mongering. Most kids ARE in childcare and just fine. We had a nanny, later did a daycare center, and the center was better. |

| Just choose well. Around this area there are so many. My kiddo couldn’t wait to go every day. |
