BTS making official visit to the White House

Apparently BTS is making a trip just to meet with Biden at the White House to address Asian hate on Tuesday. How do you think this will be looked at -

-Is Biden using them for political good will with Asians? Young People? LGBTQ?
-Will this put added pressure on South Korea to give them military exemptions?
-Why is BTS bothering to make this trip?
-Did Kamala arrange this because she just wants to meet Taehyung?
-Do you think they'll perform or add stops in NYC talk shows to promote PROOF? Go on NPR again? Visit the Smithsonian Hirschhorn?

I am surprised they're making a special trip to meet Biden over Asian Hate when they could have addressed it when they were in Vegas in April or LA in December. Do they care about the POTUS that much?

They've done other cultural ambassador-type work, including with UNICEF, and they're known for writing songs about social issues, so this makes sense. And it will ensure coverage of the issue, since BTS is incredibly popular among younger people.

They are the biggest band in the world right now, have been nominated for multiple Grammy awards and have had top-selling American albums and tour sales the past several years. And yes they are Korean.

I think it’s a bit odd and publicity stunty since they don’t live in the US. But I also think it’s cool they are coming and wish they would add a concert.

Coldplay is playing at FedEx Field the next day …. Just pointing that out!

Wonder if they’ll go up to NYC for the shows that film there, they have appeared with both Colbert and Fallon in the past.

I agree with you. I think they'll go to NYC to promote Proof. They haven't mentioned making this trip on their diplomatic passports so they will be flexible.

I agree with you. I think they'll go to NYC to promote Proof. They haven't mentioned making this trip on their diplomatic passports so they will be flexible.

I love them with Jimmy Fallon the most. He seems the most sincere and they seem the most relaxed around him so I hope they make an appearance.

My big conspiracy theory about BTS getting individual IG accounts and stuff like Suga featuring on Psy’s song and the members starting to get solos even if only for drama soundtracks, is that Hybe is preparing us the fans for when they start enlisting which could be at the end of this year. I think JK wants to put himself out there a little more to promote himself as a soloist. The market for male idol soloists in Korea isn’t the best - female soloists have it a little easier. Usually by this long into a group’s career, their solo activities are well established. We would have seen members in dramas and not just in one episode of a drama 5 years ago or whatever, plus solo promotions, albums, features with other artists, stuff like that.

Interestingly enough, Twice (girl group) didn’t have individual Instagram accounts until a few weeks ago either and their members had very few if any solo activities. Their 7 year contract renewal will be later this year. I feel like it’s the same thing with them, let them start to establish their solo activities in case multiple members choose not to continue with Twice. The thought right now is that they’ll all renew, but there are a few members who I’m on the fence about + this is the natural progression of groups, they will start to have fewer and fewer group activities as they get older and make way for the younger groups.

I assume they’re all going in together in December. I wonder if they’ll be allowed to travel later this summer, although BTS might get an exception to that.
