Are jeans supposed to be comfortable at the waist?

I feel like I never find a pair to fit comfortably at my waist. Apple shape could be the issue but do they dig into everybody? If they are on my belly button they irritate me and if they sit higher they do feel a bit more comfortable but I get left with lines or marks.

OMG the same for me. If they fit in my thighs and hips, they are just a smidge too tight in the waist. I think mid-rise tend to be more comfortable as far as that goes.

I'm always reading reviews of jeans that fit well in the hips and are too loose in the waist, and I'm just like - well, I'm not an hourglass I guess!

The answer is yes. Clothing that leaves lines or marks doesn't fit properly.

I cannot wear high rise anything bc they are not comfortable on me at all - no matter the size. Midrise works for me- no digging, doesn't fall down, etc.

Yes they are meant to be comfortable. But they are also not really meant for people that are overweight unless they have a lot of added stress. They fit best on lean people that don’t have a lot of extra around the middle.

Jeans are made of stuff fabric that zips/buttons. It can’t really accommodate extra lumps and bumps or shapes that diverge significantly from the pattern.

If you are having a hard time look for something with more stretch

Jeans are "hard pants." No need to wear those anymore!

Try Good American. Hate that K family as much as the rest of us...but those jeans are actually brilliant.

Go away. OP: jeans are not comfortable, period. I am not overweight. I am athletic and fit and look great, honestly. But most jeans just aren't comfortable. That PP is just a jerk.

NP. You go away. I lived in jeans until I got too fat for them to be comfortable. The previous posters are correct - they're stiff material that has a shape. If you don't fit in the shape, they'll be uncomfortable. If you aren't too out of the shape, you might be able to wear stretch denim. Otherwise, jeans are simply not for you. Jeans are one of the most comfortable pants there are (if you fit in them properly). Period.

+1, jeans should be comfortable and if they're not, they don't fit. If you have a body type that is hard to fit, find a jean with a lot of stretch, size up, and take in where necessary.

i also dont think it should be triggering to say that jeans are comfortable on slim people. It's just true. I'm slender, and i wear jeans almost every day (Levis and Rag and Bone) and feel very comfy.

There is a "jeans hack" that I do to make real denim fit my body -- when they are new, put them on and get in the bathtub, and then exercise -- do yoga and stretches. The jeans will mold to your skeleton a bit more and bend at your hips/knees.

to clarify --get in the bathtub full of water. get the denim soaking wet. exercise for 20-30 minutes, and then let them dry. they will fit like a glove.

It’s not triggering, you just sound kind of dumb saying jeans are only uncomfortable if you’re fat. I’m a size 18-20 and jeans are comfortable to me. It’s not a matter of body size. It’s a matter of how the jeans fit and your own sensory preferences. I can’t stand stretch jeans because of the way they feel and only wear 99% or 100% cotton denim.

Regarding the bathtub trick. I imagine a bunch of ladies jumping into their local pool with their jeans on for swim aerobics 😀🏊‍♀️

It's not about how slim the person is (or not). It's about finding the size, cut and fabric that work for you.

I have a big butt and have developed a bit of a belly in the past couple of years. I'm not skinny - 5'8" and 160 lbs. For me, high rise is best. Low rise gives me an uncomfortable muffin top, and has to be really tight across my butt to avoid slipping down. Mid rise cuts right in the middle of my tummy. High rise curvy fit (more room in the seat/hips) in a size 12 is just right: floats over the top of my stomach, held up by my hips, snug but not squeezing my rear end. With stretch to form around my shape, but not so much and to lose its form.

I hate shopping for new jeans, it usually takes me 15-20 different brands/styles to find one I like. So when I find a pair, I wear that style for years. But when I do find a good pair, they really are as comfy as anything else!
