Are jeans supposed to be comfortable at the waist?

I love Wit and Wisdom and Democracy brands (same company I think). They're stretchy without being jeggings.

My boyfriend jeans are very comfortable and all I wear these days. Jeans that don’t fit well or my old skin-tight, high waist skinnies? Nope.

OP, I absolutely believe you can find a pair of comfortable jeans! I do think being apple-shaped is part of this very specific issue, as I'm an extreme hourglass at any size (4-18, really), and I've never had this problem except with very low-rise jeans. Instead, it's wedgies that I must avoid (too much hip and butt squeezed into a small package)-- we all have our crosses to bear.

I find jeans very comfortable. I’m overweight, but proportional with a defined waist. I do think it’s harder for Apple shapes.

I’m an Apple shape and don’t find jeans uncomfortable at all. But based on some of these descriptions, I guess anything that fits the right way, I must declare them “too small” and put them back? That would fit with the fact that my main issue is jeans that stretch out too much that I end up having to pull up all day. I also buy them with a LOT of stretch because I hate uncomfortable pants.

There is a "jeans hack" that I do to make real denim fit my body -- when they are new, put them on and get in the bathtub, and then exercise -- do yoga and stretches. The jeans will mold to your skeleton a bit more and bend at your hips/knees.

to clarify --get in the bathtub full of water. get the denim soaking wet. exercise for 20-30 minutes, and then let them dry. they will fit like a glove.

Don’t you drip water everywhere wearing soaking wet jeans?

I have a love/hate relationship with Spandex. High spandex? 3 different sizes look exactly the same on my a$$.

I have BMI 19 and as much as jeans can be comfortable, by the end of the day they do leave marks on my hips and tummy. It's simply the fabric, there's 0 softness about it and they are supposed to be worn tight. The other option is going up a size and wearing a belt (the belt that would leave marks!).
This happens less with very stretchy jeans.

Wit & wisdom absolution have an elastic waist inside that is amazing.

Sensory wise, I do not find them comfortable at all. High rise worse. I prefer mid or especially- horror- low rise. I don't like anything pressing against my abdomen, regardless of weight. I don't think it's good for lymphatic flow, either.

Talk about uncomfortable! I can’t imagine doing yoga in soaking wet jeans that probably weigh 5 pounds.

Mine are fine. I do tend to get jeans that are lower cut than my belly button. Not “low rise,” per se, but certainly not as high as you’re talking about. My measurements are roughly 33-26-36, so I’m an hourglass. I tend to like skinny jeans.

I find whenever I have a pair of jeans that’s comfortable for sitting, they’re almost falling down when I walk. Sigh.

Jeans are designed for certain body types. Because of the poor flexibility of the fabric they don't work well unless you are the right shape.

When I was average weight, I could wear regular cut. When I was a bit overweight, I could wear relaxed fit. When I gained a little more, I stopped wearing them. When I dropped weight, I could go back to relaxed fit. In the pandemic, I've switched to other pants.

I'm always reading reviews of jeans that fit well in the hips and are too loose in the waist, and I'm just like - well, I'm not an hourglass I guess!

me too!
