How many times per week? Is it mostly for health reasons? |
|
Fish is a celebration food for us, we both love it but it's not easy to keep on the house like chicken is. We only have it sometimes, except when wild salmon is in season and then we eat a bunch of salmon.
Kids eat breaded fish multiple times a week but I don't think that's what you're asking. They won't eat chicken for some reason. |
| We try for once a week - typically salmon or tilapia as my kids are quite picky when it comes to fish. |
| Never, sadly. I like the good stuff and it’s too pricey for regular weeknight dinners. |
| Never. We're vegetarian. |
| Once a week because it's so easy and fast. We do pan fried mahi mahi with a lemon butter caper sauce. I occasionally make tilapia or cat fish Vietnamese style, with caramel and fish sauce. It makes the whole house stink, so that's maybe once a month. |
| 1-2 times a week. We are pescatarian so it's the only meat we eat. I usually keep a bag of frozen salmon and cod in the freezer but occasionally will buy fresh from the supermarket. We also sometimes have shrimp or mahi-mahi. |
| Seafood (lots of shell fish too), usually 2 times a week. I'd prefer 3 but sometimes it is just once. We are meat eaters. Even my kids prefer protein over carbs. So, it's delicious and better than short ribs from a health perspective. |

Which is the good stuff, and which is the bad stuff? |
| 1-3x/week. Salmon, cod, canned sardines, canned salmon, canned tuna. Maybe once every 2 months we will have shellfish of some kind. 3 kids, we eat non-seafood meat maybe 2x/month. |
| About twice a week. It is so easy to make (poached) and I roast a tray of vegetables to go with it. Thanks PP for the lemon butter caper sauce idea. We usually get frozen salmon, cod, or bass from Costco. They defrost quickly and can be kept in freezer until shortly before use. I like any fish except for tilapia and catfish. |

We have salmon, trout or mahi mahi (usually in tacos) once or twice a month. Shrimp probably once a month. Neither one of us likes fish enough to have it more often than that so when we buy more, it ends up just taking up space in the freezer (I keep opening the chest freezer and being greeted by a couple of whole fish that no one wants to cook).
We usually do chicken for our protein. |
| May be 1/ month. |
| Once a week (fish) and maybe once every 2-3 weeks shellfish (shrimp, clams, mussels, lobster, etc) I learned about ProFish here and have been ordering from them, but damn! Fish has indeed gotten pretty expensive and I'm not generally price sensitive. The seabass/halibut I like is 40 dollars/lb and that is one meal with no leftovers for our family. I'm venturing into barramundi territory, but unsure. I hate cooked salmon but I'll make it for others. When I do fish I end up doing a lot of "en papillote" so each person gets what they like. |
