| I bizarrely only want to eat black licorice. I don't even like licorice but now I want it badly. It seems it's now a no-no food. So what do you do when you want food you're not supposed to eat. |
| Moderation? I deeply craved Diet Coke after a 15 year hiatus. I indulged from time to time. |
Like most things, I am sure you'd have to eat an awful lot of black licorice over the course of your pregnancy to see any bad side effects. Otherwise they would've been warning against this a lot sooner! DH is northern European and everyone in his family loves black licorice and there's no doubt his mom ate it during her pregnancies. Like PP said, just eat in moderation to sooth the craving. Pregnancy is tough enough as it is. Sending you good wishes for your forthcoming blessing.

Wow, I never knew that about black licorice! But I'm sure a little won't hurt.
I craved sour, very very sour key lime pie. But then I learned traditionally, key lime pie is made with raw eggs, and I think that was maybe not great for pregnancy? I don't remember, it was 10 years ago. But I found ways around it to fulfill the cravings. I made some lime cookies, ate lime sherbet, drank lemonade, etc. Isn't there something you can eat/make with the flavor you crave? Not Ouzo, but something else? |
| I eat it |
this is too late for you- but I make key lime pie all the time and never with raw eggs- just follow the recipe on the back of the key lime juice - https://keylimejuice.com/nellie-joes-key-lime-pie/ I had no idea about licorice! I vote for moderation-- I ate hot dogs recently- just made sure they were well cooked and used a food thermometer to check but I'm sure the little bit of nitrates wasn't great. I wouldn't do it daily but every now and then is likely okay. |

Wow I had no idea about black licorice being a no no during pregnancy.
Just have a little every once in awhile. That’s what I did (for me it was w sushi, not licorice) |
| I eat it. I had sushi today. |
| I eat it. Third baby. |
| I ate it, but in moderation and from restaurants/delis I trusted and had been to before. Sandwiches, sushi, extra tuna, all of it. |
| With my first I avoided and with my second I just ate it. Ha |
You must be joking. You checked the meat temp of a HOT DOG?? |
| Eat the licorice. The study you’re thinking about was testing people who are extreme amounts of licorice or licorice root, the equivalent of 8 oz. a week of pure licorice root. A few pieces to satisfy a craving is not doing to hurt your baby. |
Ummmm meat thermometer for a hot dog??? You can eat it frozen if you want, leave the thermometer in the drawer. |
Same. |
