What do you do if you are craving food you're not supposed to eat while pregnant?

Black jellybeans! It’s got the flavor but no actual licorice extract. I can’t eat real licorice because it has gluten, so I go nuts on the jellybeans now and then.

Eat it, but find a high-quality source. I really wanted oysters while pregnant so I went to the nicest restaurant I could find that served them super fresh. Or eat a slightly less risky version. I love rare steak but ate medium during pregnancy

Those homemade empanadas that have been sitting in the breakroom for an indeterminant amount of time? Scarf them down, worry for 24 hours. Repeat.

I craved sour, very very sour key lime pie. But then I learned traditionally, key lime pie is made with raw eggs, and I think that was maybe not great for pregnancy? I don't remember, it was 10 years ago. But I found ways around it to fulfill the cravings. I made some lime cookies, ate lime sherbet, drank lemonade, etc. Isn't there something you can eat/make with the flavor you crave? Not Ouzo, but something else?

this is too late for you- but I make key lime pie all the time and never with raw eggs- just follow the recipe on the back of the key lime juice - https://keylimejuice.com/nellie-joes-key-lime-pie/

I had no idea about licorice!

I vote for moderation-- I ate hot dogs recently- just made sure they were well cooked and used a food thermometer to check but I'm sure the little bit of nitrates wasn't great. I wouldn't do it daily but every now and then is likely okay.

Ummmm meat thermometer for a hot dog??? You can eat it frozen if you want, leave the thermometer in the drawer.

haha we were grilling chicken and other things- took about 3 seconds to put the thermometer in the hot dog too- wasn't a big deal. https://www.pregnancyfoodchecker.com/can-i-eat-hot-dogs-while-pregnant/

Finally on my 3rd pregnancy my OB said I would have to eat a Ton of deli meat for bacteria to have a really adverse effect.
She said if it made me feel better, I could microwave it briefly. But she said in small amounts not to worry.

Me too- I went to a bakery and my typical go-to is everything chocolate. I got key lime pie- and got lemonade and popsicles at the store- which i never do.
