College and University Discussion

I see a lot of students from our high school heading towards UVA and VT. My son plans to be premed.
Which would be better for pre med? |
|
VA Tech is great for science.
Either would be good. Just get good grades and study hard for the MCATs. |
| No. |
| UVA is seen to be better but significantly would be an overstatement. Very different schools suit very different people. |
| They're both good schools. One is not "better" than the other. My DC was accepted to VT, UVA, and W&M. Chose VT. |
| Other than VT's specialty of engineering, of course it is. |
Wrong. Not to mention, the idea of preference. |
|
For the humanities and business, UVA is significantly better.
For social science, UVA is better. For natural sciences, both are decent. For engineering, VT is significantly better, but one shouldn't discount the UVA name given the choice between UVA and VT engineering. |
| You people are seriously pathetic. |
| No need to worry about better, OP. It’s not that easy to get into them. |
| It’s not where you go, it’s what you do when you get there. Either would be good! I would visit and see which one would suit your child better. |
+1 No. |
At least we state clearly what we mean. |
|
Yes UVA is better.
-someone who went to neither |
Define better. To some on DCUM, that equates to more selective and higher ranked. By that definition, UVA overall is better. If you mean which school offers a better education? It depends on the program and the kid so there is no definitive answer. I would note that for those who look to class size as a component of academic quality, 24.4% of classes at VT have 50 or more students, versus only 14.5% at UVA. |
