Latin Cooper Leadership team announced

Can any current Latin parents speak to those who are coming over as a founding team (and weather the principal will have immigration status in time to launch the new campus??)

Great team. All highly respected educators and people. Khashiffa Roberts was amazing with my kids with 504 plans/IEPs before she left. She’s a clear and compassionate communicator and I have no doubt she will successfully lead the Cooper Campus. And with the support of the legendary Diana Smith who will act as interim principal if there are any delays. That’s like having Meryl Streep as your understudy. Can’t go wrong.

Sort of. Smith actively resisted adding middle school math challenge for a decade, finally caving to parental pressure (including mine).

Quick takes

Starnes - amazing - former student of Latin teaches 5th grade Latin now and a favorite of the kids - my DS has him as his advisor this year and he has been just great

Moore - 6th grade math teacher - all of her kids have gone through Latin - great teacher, very kind and compassionate-

Both amazing educators

“Unexpected complications with her immigration status”?

Hmmm..

I’m sad to see Ms. Moore leave the first campus, but Latin Cooper is so lucky to have her. She is the best math teacher my kids have ever had. Plus she’s really on the ball.

We agonized over the unknowns of Latin II. It seems odd to name someone to lead the school when you aren't sure they will be able to take on the job come Aug 1 (and she can't be here now to prepare). I don't know her and I am sure she's great. But from a communication and marketing perspective this is not a good look.

That said, I hope her issues are resolved and Latin II becomes another successful option for MS students.

I'm sure she's a great principal, but is the state of ed hiring so bad that they're trying to bring in someone who was deported and still appears to not be a US citizen? It doesn't seem like a solid foundation for starting a new school.

Do I read correctly that Diana would be interim if she couldn't make it? You'll be FINE .

She wasn’t deported. She went home during Covid.

Except Latin’s announcement said it was immigration related in 2019? I don’t care about her citizenship but I can understand why parents might be concerned if she’s not able to start this fall.

She left voluntarily, but there is definitely an immigration problem at root which is not COVID-related, since it started way before that.

I made a similar observation about the bad look for Latin with her not being able to hit the ground running. But I did it without subtle jingoism or bad faith use of (factually incorrect) trigger words like "deported". If you didn't "care about her citizenship" then you would have been better served to concentrate on the part about which you (now) pretend to care so deeply. But what you typed was not by accident.

So yeah, troll.

I didn’t post the “deported” comment and wouldn’t. I was responding to the comment that she went home during COVID.
