Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)

The number of new infections reported was 75 for April 22nd data. 62 (30% schools increased the number of reported 10-day-infections; 130 schools showed no change of status (possibly stable / halt in new infections); while only 17 (8%) indicated improving numbers. The trend from Apr 19 to 22 has been 862, 933, 1035, 1110 {0,+71,+102,+75}. The improvement in numbers should be helped by the weekend, although there were a large number of unmasked families enjoying the outdoor weather yesterday and eating unmasked at indoor restaurants. It is unclear how this will affect the upcoming week's data. However, the preliminary Apr 23 data (not fully accounted for until tomorrow) does seem encouraging (currently at 36 students and 5 staff).
There are still some posters with a dismissive attitude regarding multiple repeated infections from covid variants. For anyone encouraging their children not to mask at school, my understanding is that once lung scarring occurs in the lungs, it is cumulative damage and cannot be reversed with current medical technology. (https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/10959-pulmonary-fibrosis.) My understanding is that scar tissue does not effectively exchange oxygen as alveoli. The number of MCPS schools with 4+ infections has risen to 105. Half of all schools in MCPS have now reported 4+ infections within a 10-day window. The trend is 92, 98, 105. Parents at schools with 2% infection rates or more should remember that this means 1/50 people within the building have been infected. MCSP Teachers and Staff are hopefully taking extra precautions (with cleaning throughout the day, eating outdoors, changing air filtration, masking, cleaning bathrooms, spraying rooms daily / wiping touch-surfaces with disinfectant, etc.). | We knew this would happen. What reaction do you want? Anyone who cares choose virtual this year. |
OP. There is a typo. This is actually Apr23rd data. I didn't do an analysis yesterday (it was too nice outside!)
|
Actually, my kids and I are in 3 different schools and I do "care". I have been watching the numbers at each of our schools and honestly, I'm happily surprised that there hasn't been a bigger jump after spring break. We choose to mask this week, but seeing that the case numbers were very low at our schools, I'm much more comfortable than I was in January. Next week my daughter, with speech difficulties, will return to not masking. The data has been reassuring to me. |
| Isn't it easier to just keep this in one thread? Very few actually GAF any more so not sure why the board is being spammed. |
I GAF, but I can find the data for myself. This is just trolling for a reaction, and for the sake of creating drama. Notice there was none of this lengthy and repetitive data regurgitation when numbers were doing down. |
I care because I love my kids. You should try it. |
When the numbers go down, that's a good sign and it's not necessary to post data. However, when MCPS leadership pretends like nothing is wrong, shows their incompetence as they did in January and February - it's nice to have an independent look at the information that you won't hear from them or the Principals. |
Yeah |
How does this information help you love your kids? What are you going to do tomorrow with this info? |
How does it help to endlessly parrot data that’s freely available on the dashboard to anyone who wants to access it? It’s not like this is anything people can’t discover for themselves if they care to look. |
| Please stop fear mongering about lung damage and scarring. There is no proof that everybody who has covid has scarred lungs for life. |
Who said everybody? Stop being stupid. Lung damage is a consequence of covid and so far there is no cure. There is lots of proof of that. |
If you really cared your kids would be virtual. |
Many students didn’t thrive in online learning. MCPS should be doing everything possible to keep staff and students in person while protecting them from COVID. The CDC recommends masks as a protective measure. MCPS just hired a Medical Director. What is her recommendation to the school system? |
