Social resume for sorority rush

Is this a normal thing? I’ve never heard of it, but a friend posted their daughter’s online today asking for rec letters for rush.

What goes onto a social resume?

I did a rec for a neighbor last year and I would just call it a resume. It listed her schooling, ECs/Leadership roles, employment history and hobbies.

Rec letters? What about first generation students?

Full resume complete with gpa, APs, and test scores. All ECs, sports, volunteer work, employment, awards etc.

Recs vary but usually a rec from a “sister” of as many houses as you can find even if they’re 50 years old.

100% do not recommend for any girl who has any amount of anxiety or depression.

You get a recommendation from someone who has already been to college. It in no way would exclude a first generation applicant.

Yeah, it probably would/does.

Some sororities no longer require them, and mine now accepts recs from coaches, teachers, etc. Mine also stopped giving any advantage to legacies for exactly that reason. I was happy to read about those changes!

Let's face it, most first generation kids' parents do not have friends who went college and were in sororities in their social circles (assuming that is the source for most rec letters). Nor are they like to have cousins or aunts who were in sororities.

Just in case this needs to be said, this is not necessary for every school. My child went to a SLAC that had greek life and asked once how many women get turned down from sororities since rush has an application fee. They said 2 kids had been turned down each year in the preceding years.

Yes and tons of people replied saying they’d write her daughter a rec and stated which sorority. Some even said “so and so woudl have more pull” than I would. She has a list of all of the sororities she’s interested in.

This is common for big schools where rush starts earlier than the fall semester. And recommendation letters are often from family friends/alumnae and sisters who know the incoming freshman well enough to write a letter.

I assume the resume includes a picture and that's what really matters.
