How do you feel about genderless restrooms in schools?

Anonymous
I sympathize with the rationale, but it seems there might be a better way than genderless bathroom to help trans kids. Maybe adding a few single stall ones, instead (akin to the family restrooms at airports.) I know I wouldn't have wanted to use the same restroom as boys when I was in school. Am I the only one who feels this way?

Teacher here. The things that go on in bathrooms at schools are disturbing. All bathrooms should be singular. That way, gender does not matter but it is also safe and private.

I am fully on board with single-stall unisex bathrooms. If you’re talking about having boys and girls in the same multiple-stall bathroom, hell no.

With all the stories about girls getting in fights in school bathrooms, this would be the better way to go. Not sure how possible it is with the existing bathroom set up.

This is where $$$ should go, not CRT and gender garbage for 5 year olds.

They’re gross, just like the unisex ones at airports, coffee shops and restaurants. Pee all over the seat and floor and toilet.

Train yourself to stand and not touch anything.

They need to be cleaned and sanitized multiple times a day.

Ask any man if he thinks it’s clean and sanitary to send a little girl into an empty mens bathroom stall to pee. Resounding no. The bathrooms are disgusting.

Maybe if they found a way to force users to clean up after themselves.

And this is a secondary point to washing up or using the bathroom in a closed sink area with boys, girls, non binary. Awkward.

Some DC schools have converted their former multiple stall bathroom in to genderless bathrooms. I struggle with that. I see the point of single stalls, but this seems like a prescription for trouble, not least of which could be sexual assault. This means a sixth grade girl could share a multiple-stall bathroom with an eighth grade boy, no? Again, am I missing something?

If there is a huge line of girls, I support converting one of two mens room to a womens room (or vice versa at say a cub scout convention). However, no I don't support just urinals and tampon collectors all together in the changing/shower space. Supervised same-sex adults in locker rooms preventing hazing/fights/etc if there is an incident is something I'd support.
