| Hi, I am having difficulty enrolling my rising 9th grader in summer PE via Virtual Virginia. Do i need to do it through the school? Any tips? many thanks...this website has me completely confused! |
| I think it’s an fcps course through ACE. |
| I’m not in FCPS, but my 8th grader’s counselor said that she would have to do it. |
|
From the website FAQs:
Can a parent or guardian enroll a student in the Summer Session? No. The enrollment must be done by the local school. (Note: Only a homeschooled student may be enrolled by their parent/guardian.) |
This is not correct. The 9th grade high school counselor must do it. It’s a 9th grade class. |
We did this a few years ago. The counselor at the MS worked with the counselor at the HS to work it all out. |
| I signed up online through a website on FCPS. I never spoke to the counselor for either PE 9 or PE 10. When my DD submitted her class selection she just omitted PE from her choices. Done. |
Your DD took PE through the FCPS online campus; you can do that yourself without counselor involvement. My DC has a doing the same this summer. Virtual Virginia is different and IIRC, registration must be done through the school. |
We did through https://www.fcps.edu/academics/summer-learning/online-programs (FCPS) involving middle school and Hight school counselor. My child 9th grade course till has PE 9 listed. once student completes PE 9 over summer than can pick available elective. |
| Is there an advantage to taking Sumer PE through VV over FCPS summer PE? |
Again, that bc your student took it through FCPS. The other option, which OP is asking about, is through VV. |
My question too - are you trying to get it over the summer so they don't have to during the school year? Sadly I know some looking to do this due to locker room bullying issues. |
My understanding is many do this to fit in a more strenuous academic curriculum to enable more AP classes later on. |
My DD is doing it to free up an elective spot so that she can continue to do orchestra. She is in a magnet program (not FCPS) that does not allow for this otherwise. I’d rather her continue doing something she truly loves than shuffling around feigning exercise, or whatever they do in PE as teenagers. As a bonus, I get to enforce 60 hours of physical activity during the summer! She’s going to have to get up and go outside and exercise! Honestly, I think every teen should have mandatory PE in the summer. |
| Can anyone do a comparison of FCPS vs VV summer PE? |
