| You should make sure that FCPS excepts the virtual Va PE summer class. Also the OP says her kid is not in FCPS. This post is confusing as it’s a FCPS forum. Maybe OP should post in the VA school forum |
OP never said her kid isn’t in FCPS. |
It is the only class FCPS accepts. They accept Econ and personal finance which is a VV curriculum but it’s through FCPS’ ACE. |

It is really hard to get allowed to take it.
You have to go through the school counselor. Then they need to confirm if there is a teacher at that school that is willing to serve as the point of contact person for your kid while they do the program (this involves minimal work from what I can tell but my kid’s school is saying they cannot provide anyone). If you do not have this teacher point of contact then you will not be allowed to take it. FCPS seems to really want people to take their summer class and be really against people doing PE via VV. |
Post 9:31 seemed like it was OP responding . Maybe not. |
| Any updates on how your journey worked in getting approval for Virtual Virginia? |
| I believe Virtual Virginia does not have the daily class and is asynchronous, so it is easier to do. FCPS online PE has a daily class that kids have to attend and very specific heart rate targets and the like for the daily exercise that kids find frustrating to hit. |
FCPS really needs to reform this PE class. DD is a serious year round swimmer. Was doing daily two hour workouts when she took the class. And STILL had to do additional exercises due to the stupid heart rate requirement. |
Too bad she couldn't do Virtual Virginia. They actually have a sign off sheet that the coach could sign. My daughter got it signed for dance. |
We tried. Her school refused to take the minimal steps required for kids to do VVA. |
| How can we raise this above the HS? This seems so bad that FCPS is inconsistent. What a missed opty to make things more efficient and effective for students. |
It's been done several times on this forum, search for it in the search box and go back to the spring of last year, or the year before, or the year before....this topic is brought to this forum every. single. year. |
| A follow up question - what about the option that says “unable to access the curriculum through fcps” and then you register at an online private school. We are looking at this for a different course because of the requirement to log in daily for FCPS and that won’t be possible. Will this be approved? Anyone tried it? We see the private school needs to be accredited and found places that are. The only other options seem to be it’s less expensive, but it’s not less expensive. |
| re: the heart rate requirement - PLEASE everyone doing this set your child's heart rate tracker so it's in the required zone during their workout so it's not total insanity. It is the only way! |
| IS FCPS no longer offering virtual summer HPE classes? My son took PE 9 last summer, but there is nothing on the website about it for this summer. All of the other virtual classes, like Econ and personal finance, are already open for registration and the site says registration is open from January-May. |
