I had no idea this was a thing. Has this been done before?

I wish he would do this for FCPS too!

This is such a shocking example of authoritarianism.

The bill was bipartisan and sponsored by a Loudon D delegate

Nope. He amended the bipartisan bill. He changed the election cycle from next year to this year. The bill introduced staggered terms for school board members but didn't move the election cycle. Youngkin did that.

It will need to pass again, when they return. It's not official yet.

Really hope it passes. This group needs to go.

Isn't this check and balances and democracy - he put it in a bill that elected representatives need to vote for. Things can be changed and this is how you do it - through bills and laws that elected representatives vote on.

If you want to know what I think is veering on authoritarian - it's booster requirements being allowed in this country - for my 12 year old son who is fully vaccinated plus has had covid.

Many of us wish that could be possible. Let’s stop with the recalls and let voters decide. I think all school boards should have staggered election cycles. I’d be happy if he put half of them up for re-election next year.

So the governor should just unilaterally decide when local elections will happen, shortening the terms of elected officials?

It's not unilateral if it passes in a bill approved by the VA legislature.

Loudoun School Board has already voted for staggered terms. I think this means everyone is on the ballot in 2023, but four of them would be on the ballot again in 2025.

One member of the school board has resigned, another died.
Petitions have been presented to recall two others, and there are enough signatures collected to recall two more.
I think one of the other three is running for Congress.

They were already going to staggered terms, which should have happened years ago.

I can't believe how dumb people are. Authoritarians don't put things up for real votes.
