| My observation as a non-PG resident: I have not heard of any PG politician talking about "defunding the police" and the weird racial politics of white liberals in DC/MoCo just doesn't exist at the same level in PG. |
|
That's because PG has consistently had worst crime than similar suburban communities - Montgomery, Arlington, Fairfax, Charles - and they are desperate to get their act cleaned up.
|
DC homicide rate in 2021: 227 people (total pop is ~689k) PG homicide rate in 2021: 133 people (total pop is ~908k) |
Does the word suburban mean something different in your world? |
Homicides aren't the only type of crime. |
| What local politicians have called for “defunding the police?” |
| It's common knowledge that regular POC do not want the police defunded in their communities. It's only richer areas with white progressive voters/politicians that actually attempt to defund the police. They almost always ignore pleas from the POC community to increase police presence in their community and schools as well. |
Can you not comprehend the original post, which specifically said DC? |
We moved to PG from Georgia Ave bc the crime in dc was getting out of hand. PG Police seem more engaged and our pols never say silly stuff like defund the police like in DC. |
+1. Regular POC here. We do not want to defund the police and I cringe and correct folks every time hear it. I want fully funded and well-trained officers. I also want trained SROs in schools. |
| Nobody is defunding the police. Stop watching Fox News. |

Define. |
MoCo cut 25 police officers last year for no reason. Disbanded the central auto theft unit. Lost grant funding by doing that, too. Literally, NO reason to do that. It was the only county department that took staff cuts last year. |
