The GA partnership has been in the works for a while because mlsn needs a girl partnership for clubs with boys and girls. So everyone can stay on the same BY alignment.

We will have states make their own SY cut offs and decide what works best. US club soccer will also have a set SY cut off for national and regional event.

ECNL going to use a nationalized cut off for their teams but more than likely college showcases will be based off what grade a kid is in. This will all start Fall 26.

US Club is the feeder system for almost all competitive soccer players in our area. MLSN/GA would have to create their own BY youth leagues nationwide to create their own feeder system. Maybe they are working on that, but I haven't seen any indication. It doesn't make sense for the US, logistically or economically to have 2 different registrations.

They will start getting local leagues to join them. Some already have. There will be BY leagues and they will be classified as the leagues for kids who want to be pros and national team players.

Obviously a SY kid could also that’s just what you will start hearing is a weaponization of BY is better because of this or SY is better because of that.

A line will be drawn a clubs and leagues will have to pick a side.

SoCal is moving to school year 9/1

Going to make mls next tryouts the following year a mess. U12 q4 will have to jump to u14

Where did you hear 9/1? I thought it was 8/1? Or that’s what it was before.

From a direct source, sy 9/1 a done deal.

Unlikely but this was a month ago and it could’ve changed. We’ll see

Because both Socal and Norcal want to align with ECNL, so they will both use 9/1. It is a done deal. Stupid people choose to ignore ECNL CEO hint.

I hope there is a waiver process for earlier birthdays for legitimate non-sports related reasons (redshirting).

Not very helpful to play in showcases on a different team.

This is the type of content we need to get us to 1000. Keep it coming!

9/1 still doesn’t make sense. Neither does grad year showcases. They are going to jack this up…
Anonymous
It was always 8/1 and there has only been one podcast episode mentioning possibility of 9/1. Nothing definitive. And lots of feedback that continues to flow in.
Anonymous
If 9/1, Why leave out those few states that 8/1 is the cutoff. Makes no sense. But then again, neither does waiting another 18 months to move to SY. Lazy, lazy clubs.
Anonymous
Fully agree. 8/1 national cutoff makes so much sense.

ECNL will go 9/1 everyone complains and they end up going grad year.

Ok no one complain then

People won’t be able to help themselves.

Screw 1000, this could hit 10,000 if we wait till Spring 26 to hear direction from the leagues

Lot of dumb comments on this thread, this one takes the cake.

If your kid should switch…switch! Quit finding excuses to not switch. You’re legit blaming some other kid for you and your kid not trying. Lame.

Do not want to be a f**king dumb shit like you. We only switch when we start. We will take your dumb shit player position soon. Just go f**k somewhere else.

Same response. Stop waiting, and just do it. Otherwise it’s just whining.

Is anyone actually confirming the change for 26/27?

Hahaha this is the real question.

If MLSN + GA keep pulling over clubs and they stay BY it will be difficult for ECNL to do SY.

You understand this is bigger than ECNL, GA, and MLSN jockying. The removal of the mandate impacts all of the feeder systems into those leagues. Which is arguably bigger when you consider who will even be considered for these "top" leagues.

Here's the truth that people won't tell you about BY vs SY.

When players are younger it does matter when they were born. Kids grow fast and when they're younger 6 months means more mature, better able to handle the ball, etc. However once they hit u14/u15 girls are 90% done growing. You know which ones are going to have a physical advantage and which ones won't.

What this means is BY or SY doesn't really matter once players hit puberty and it definately doesn't matter once players are u17.

Here's another weird thing you wouldn't expect. The early developers tend to get career ending njuries like ACL tears in HS while later maturing players get injuries in college or even later in life. These are things coaches are looking for that parents don't expect. If a kids on crutches as a junior in hs there's a good chance they'll reinjure themself playing in college.

This is true. For women, up to 60% of ACL tears are reinjuries any given year.

Okay- so where did you get this information that early developers have career ending injuries! The re-injury rate is not 60%. Do some research before spatting out random facts. Unless you want to get to 1000 pages then keep going. My 2013 daughter tore her ACL and is not an early maturer. So it has nothing to do with that!

Not the early maturer poster. But reinjury on ACL for girls absolutely is over 60%. You do some research.

The league’s are waiting until spring 26 for direction?
Anonymous
Because of tryout schedules for 26/27, leagues are not waiting until spring 26 for direction. Obviously. I just don’t think ecnl is making a big announcement this week like some think. US soccer will reveal that 8/1 or 9/1 cutoff date for sure and whatever “support materials” to aid in the transition. The question is will GA and ECNL and MLSN reveal their intentions?
