ECNL moving to school year not calendar

MLSN/GA have been working on their youth feeder systems. I was told last summer we will see some leagues decide to go full BY because they want to be affiliated with MLS.

The GA partnership has been in the works for a while because mlsn needs a girl partnership for clubs with boys and girls. So everyone can stay on the same BY alignment.

We will have states make their own SY cut offs and decide what works best. US club soccer will also have a set SY cut off for national and regional event.

ECNL going to use a nationalized cut off for their teams but more than likely college showcases will be based off what grade a kid is in. This will all start Fall 26.

Yes - it is happening in 26/27. No - it is not happening in 25/26. Most everyone agrees with this, including US Soccer.

Define "it." If by "it" you mean the mandate that teams switch to SY, that's pretty well established in the many pages above.

If by "it" you mean ECNL will leave everything "as is" in 25/26, we'll see.

I think people will be surprised when MLSN goes SY and eliminates their late developer program. MLS academy and YNT will be the only programs staying BY.

This is not happening. And GA is BY too.

Who are you? Another dumb shit? SY will align college recruiting better. It is beneficial for pay to play MLSN clubs change to SY. I put my money only MLS Academy remains in BY. And biobanding should only be allowed in MLS Academy to benefit the truly elite players.

You don’t know what you’re talking about. MLS is the one who made sure US soccer did not mandate SY. So why would they want their MLSN system to be SY.

That is just a fantasy, there has been zero indication of what MLS prefers.

Believe what you want. But MLS has been against SY change. They have big influence on US soccer. This is why US soccer just released the mandate on BY.

It’s pretty common knowledge amongst soccer people that MLS does not want SY.

That may have been the case in the past but times are changing. Why did MLSN create a new tier that allows players to play high school ball?

Because some kids actually like playing high school. So they wanted to give some flexibility on that. You want to play go down to tier 2. The top kids will not be allowed to play high school.

MLS next/ga/ea are staying birth year. I have a q4 boy who’s right on the margin, missed getting into mls academy by less than 5 roster spots. Switch to school year moves the needle drastically in our situation but probably hurts in the long run with mls next staying by.

US Club is the feeder system for almost all competitive soccer players in our area. MLSN/GA would have to create their own BY youth leagues nationwide to create their own feeder system. Maybe they are working on that, but I haven't seen any indication. It doesn't make sense for the US, logistically or economically to have 2 different registrations.

They will start getting local leagues to join them. Some already have. There will be BY leagues and they will be classified as the leagues for kids who want to be pros and national team players.

Obviously a SY kid could also that’s just what you will start hearing is a weaponization of BY is better because of this or SY is better because of that.

A line will be drawn a clubs and leagues will have to pick a side.

Incorrect. U12 Q4 will REPEAT U12.

Example if you are a 2014 Q4 (my kid!) now you're playing U11. In 25/26 no change and you play U12. In 26/27 if they change to SY and you're Q4, you play U12 again. There are no jumps, just repeaters.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they make their own MLSN youth league.

Correct, your 2014b q4 will play u12 26/27.

However 27/28 he’d have to jump to u14 when switching back to by (mls next). I’m in the exact same boat as you.

Where did you hear 9/1? I thought it was 8/1? Or that’s what it was before.

From a direct source, sy 9/1 a done deal.

Unlikely but this was a month ago and it could’ve changed. We’ll see

Maybe but the cheaper option would be to switch to SY with the rest of youth soccer.

I recently heard mls academies might be going away too, from an mls academy director.
