On to ballot 11 because there's no way he's getting 218

The Washington Post just announced that Rep. Ted Lieu (D) just voted for Hakeen Jeffries for Speaker. Are the Democrats voting? If so, why don't they just all vote for Jeffries for Speaker? They only need to get a few Rs on their side (which, I know, is pretty much an impossibility).

In a nutshell, no Democrat will vote for a Republican, and no Republican will vote for a Democrat.

No, this is not true. Democrats won't vote for an election saboteur nor someone who will not partner in good faith. If GOP put up one of the handful of non-election deniers a Speaker, Dem would consider it.

Don't try to both sides this. GOP dysfunction and everyone expects the Dems to clean up their sh!t. Just like maintenance had to clean up insurrectionists sh!t.

Like who? I'm struggling to think of any GOP rep who is not somewhere on the spectrum of crazy.

Fred Upton?

He's no longer in Congress. And he's not there because he was run out by the crazies. Why would we think the crazy people that ran him out would now vote for him?

Speaker doesn’t have to be a MoC, which is curious given they are second in the line of succession.

Very interesting. Your point?

Oh they’ll find a way to spin it and blame the Dems

Thank you - this is just what I needed after sitting through the 9th(!) vote.

Love this, definitely feels like we are living in one of their plotlines.

Michael Waltz (FL) on CNN right now. Basically he said he will not work with Ds and wants to govern as a conservative. And have a tirade against Biden.

F all of them. Let them eat each other while I watch with a nice glass of Chianti.

I’m the sh!t poster. Unfortunately there is no one. But Dems are acting in good faith and I hope the American ppl see this. Probably futile.

Hannity went pretty hard on Boebert the other night.

Most of Fox thought shutting down the House is an acceptable way to get what you want. They seem oblivious to the fact that it isn’t going to work like that.

FFS, can we persuade 6 republicans to void for the democrat candidate? Because that seems easier than McCarthy winning at this point.

No for a few reasons:
1. 3 dems in the line of succession.
2. the Speaker of the House controls a lot including committee leadership positions.

I'm sure there are more but I'm tire.d

I bet she's loving watching the news today.

She could be, just need 6 Republicans and all the Democrats to vote for her.

Which 6 Republicans are willing to sacrifice re-election in a ‘24 primary?

6 who are ready to be out of this circus?

I think if this goes on long enough, they will force Kevin No Gavel to withdrawal….or 6 GOP will vote for Jeffries.

Great take on “Billy No Mates.”
