And a little more data, the lowest vaccination rate in FCPS is for those ages 25-34. Also, an age group least likely to have school aged children. https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/health/novel-coronavirus/vaccine/data But I’m glad twenty somethings can go out to bars but people want to be up in arms about in person school. Seriously, GTFO. |
Yes, we are doomed if every time someone gets the sniffles we have to shut the entire household down for 3+ weeks. |
Oh OK. Studies quoted in CDC MMWRs are totally just right wing disinformation? |
NP. I knew it was just a matter of time before the troll word comes up. People just want to bury their heads and pretend it is spring 2021. |
| Any nurses or doctors here? Can you comment on how the ER situation is in Fairfax county? |
Well if the data says spread in schools is no different than it was in school year 2020-2021, why can't we? And so far that is what the data says (see Hopewell, VA, various summer schools, and the UK). If the data changes, then it's up to people and institutions to adjust accordingly. |
Covid ActNow says 79%. https://covidactnow.org/us/virginia-va/county/fairfax_county/?s=21941120 I believe honestly it normally runs in the yellow. In 2018 DH was at the ICU and it was quite crowded. Sitting in the hallway at an ICU is nothing new. Mid-July we were down to 9 hospitalizations for COVID and the ICU was still 78% full. |
This is what people have a hard time understanding. They just get sucked into the terrifying headinlines......"ICUs at 85% FULL!!.....when normally they are in the 75-85% range. That part inconveniently left out of the stories. |
According to Inova currently Inova Fairfax has about a 70 min average wait time and the rest are all below 1 hr. https://www.inova.org/emergency-room-wait-times Considering we're around 200 new cases per day and previously handled sustained levels of closer to 450 new cases per day, I'd be surprised if the hospitals here are already overrun. Get vaccinated, wear a mask, be cautious where you can, but this isn't close the schools levels. |
I will only admit this on an anonymous forum. I had a mild cold this week. Rest of family totally fine with no symptoms. I considered testing but I was afraid my kids would have to miss open house and school next week. No one is sick. I am not even sick, like super mild cold symptoms. I have a scratchy throat. |
Jesus. Get an OTC test at Walgreens or CVS, especially if your kids are too young to be vaccinated. |
I concur. I wouldn’t test. |
|
PLEASE DO TEST if your kid has symptoms. These are the "real" rules for FCPS.... (copied from school website):
________________________________________________ Students who are showing signs of COVID-like illness may not return to school until: 1. Student has tested negative for COVID-19 OR 2. A healthcare provider has seen the student and documented a reason for the symptoms other than COVID-19 OR 3. All of these are true: at least 10 days since the start of symptoms AND fever free off anti-fever medicines for 24 hours AND symptoms are getting better ___________________________________________ So, once you test negative (doesn't matter what kind of test), you are good to go back to school. Period. End of story. |
Thank you. These are reasonable requirements, although to make them work, we need much more convenient and accessible testing. |
|
To add on to the rules:
IF You have been exposed to someone in the household who is positive for Covid, THEN YOU MUST Quarantine for 14 days. |
