It's not like it's an official nickname that you can reject, either -- people just do it the same way the might call Hillary "Hil" or Angie "Ange".

Don't give your DD a name that people will shorten to "Bad".

Agree with this. OP if you like Mallory, what about Valerie? It's as close to your style as Mallory is without the strong 80s vibes and "Mal" nickname.

Really? I think Valerie is SO 80s. I think maybe Valentina would be better or Vivian if
You want a v. Lillian or Lily would be nice.

What difference does it make? Jane doesn't exactly go with the others, so go with what you like. It's not like they will go around their entire lives introducing themselves en masse.

In what world does Jane not go with Elizabeth or Caroline?

Jane and Elizabeth are only two of the most famous sisters in English literature of all time.

I think 50s names are back, I know kids in K named Beverly and Joan!

Oooh Beverly and Joan. So perfect. Mom names growing up:
Madge, Paula, Donna, Bev, Janice, Denise, Marcia, Linda

I know a baby Laura and a Susan. When I heard the names they sounded so refreshing!
