You’re assuming all white children are privileged.

DP. In a country where institutional racism is so deeply rooted, are they not, in a sense, privileged?

Agree. Yes, all white children, including mine, are privileged. They never have to walk into a store and worry about being followed simply because of the color of their skin. That in and of itself is a privilege regardless of any other circumstance in their life.

The whole thing has gotten ridiculous, but it's one iota of the curriculum. Our kids have to grow up in this society. May as well learn something. They still can choose to form their own opinions, just like kids always have.

So much of the curriculum beyond core subjects just involves going through the motions to earn whatever grade you're seeking. This is just more background noise for students to blow off and wade through.

As much as I think that CRT is overblown and not always helpful solutions to what are real issues, I also agree that students will largely just wade through this and blow it off. On this, though everybody hated him for it, David French was right.

Not the PP, but one of the problems with the "woke" movement and the concept of white privilege is that it overlooks the reality of poverty and disadvantage among some white populations. For those people, white privilege is mostly theoretical. On the one hand are the truly privileged classes arguing against these concepts because they fear losing power, cling to biased ideas, and so on. On the other are those who lives are marked primarily by disadvantage and who are neither helped nor convinced by rhetoric that labels them advantaged.

“Banning” critical race theory is nonsensical unless you are banning any discussion of race whatsoever. There is room within critical race theory for criticisms because it’s CRITICAL theory.

Honestly, have you seen some of the curriculum materials? They aren't going to teach critical race theory. It looks to me more like a very watered down anti-bias training that falls somewhere between putting anti-bullying slogans on t-shirts and having counselors talk about hurt feelings.

Yes, this scares me too. I continue to believe this forum is targeted by "conservative" groups as a place to engage is misinformation.

Conservative views show up on anonymous forums in part because the left has created a cancel culture in which people lose their jobs and are harassed for saying anything publicly with which the progressive left finds fault.

What happens in 2023?

Seriously? FCPS SB elections.

Oh yes, please, let's bring back racists and gun nuts, cause that worked out so well before.

Glad I don’t live next to polarizing nuts like you.

Why not? Why can't you have both? The only people who don't think so are people who don't want others to have the same opportunities so make up stories about equity and dumbing down. When in reality, standards don't change. It just would make their kids less special

Are standards changing at TJ? At UVA? The desire to be both woke and elite is strange. Strange because it still allows privileged whites to be the gatekeepers.

Yes.

Standards are changing at both TJ and UVA.

Please read.

From the article:

“ Conservatives are not the only critics of diversity training. For years, some progressives, including critical race theorists, have questioned its value: Is it performative? Is it the most effective way to move toward equity or is it simply an effective way of restating the obvious and stalling meaningful action? But that is not the fight that has materialized over the past nine months. Instead, it is a confrontation with a cartoonish version of critical race theory.”

Sadly, one would think it’s restating the obvious, but many people (of all races) are truly clueless about the racism that is the foundation of our laws, culture.

Indeed. What’s going on now is making many privileged people a little uncomfortable. Not a lot because the don’t see themselves as losing their grip on power and wealth and private property. But we’re advancing the discussion of Justice and what is right and fair.

Why do you want to steal other people's hard earned private property?

Obviously the Appalachian coal miners daughter has a huge leg up on Sasha and Malia.

Or the trailer park kid with methy parents from the midwest.

That's the problem. You see it as people stealing directly from you. People are talking about whites no longer having a monopoly on these things...not by a "power grab," but by increasing opportunities for non whites.

My private property belongs to me and no one else. I earned it through hard work and talent. I can keep it for myself or share it with others. This is my right enshrined in the constitution.

You had nothing to do with my prlperty and have no rights or ownership to it.

If you want to confiscate other's private property, go move to some communist country somewhere.
