APS - Over/Under on Duran changing his mind if CDC reduces school distancing to 3 feet?

Another irrational tantrum.

It’s still 6’ for lunch and MS/HS. Virtual school has been working for many.

Send your kid to summer school to catch up. They will be back 5 days in the fall.

LOL. Did you see the summer school email sent earlier? Only English language learners, students with a disability, children who haven't attended school, and failing middle and high-schoolers will be given the option of summer school. Your generic struggling kid will have no public option this summer. All people are asking for is the opportunity for APS to make up for missing an entire quarter of instruction last spring.

“Any rising Kindergarten through 3rd graders who have not consistently attended during the 2020-21 school year or who have evidenced little to no growth”

If your kid is struggling that much they should qualify.

Missing “quarter”? There was probably only about a month left of actual instruction. Spring break, SOL prep, and SOLs take up much of the 4th quarter.

Summer school is a joke. It’s still half virtual.

Is it me, Or does it seem like Duran will go above and beyond to keep kids from physically being in-school??

Each K class at our school takes up 2 classrooms, which is why 1st grade can’t be there at the same time. Extra space is not suddenly going to magically appear at APS schools as much as you wish it would.

This isn't true at our elementary school. Classrooms aren't being shared. Aids aren't being shared. Nearly everyone is in the expanded walkzone. There is really no barrier to bringing back kids in K-2 for four days a week.

But it is true at many schools. This has to be workable for all schools for it to happen. Like someone else said, if they can make it work without upsetting the whole apple cart again, great. Either way I hope they're putting effort towards making sure the fall goes smoothly.

A change this late means some schools would have to revamp their plans completely...as would transportation.

And yet school divisions across the country have had a plan b for 3 feet from the beginning or are revamping. Why do we hold APS to such low standards. For god sake, this thinking is what led to no teaching in spring 2020. This is too hard... just let this pass....no point in inventing the wheel now. Let’s just wait until next school year. It’s like a repeat of last spring. STOP WAITING. Do it now. Figure it out. And 9 days of summer school is a f-ing joke.

Because Arlington is full of risk averse lunatics who want to stay home forever. They’re perfectly happy with distance “learning” and never leaving their houses.

Why are you assuming APS doesn’t have a plan? Just because they didn’t immediately announce doesn’t mean nothing is going to happen. They are updating Thursday at the board meeting.

My kids are in hybrid and loving their two days in the building. I can't wait for them to go back, but I'm not going to push it when it doesn't make sense. If they can add more kids or days without disrupting classes & bus routes, then great. If not, plan for a great return in the fall.

For the summer, they are trying to accommodate as many kids as possible who meet the criteria with likely very few teachers available.

Bwahahah. You think they’re going to figure it out by fall? You give them way too much credit. They’ve had a year and this is what we get. Fall will be no netter

Exactly. APS is a disgrace, it's pathetic how lazy their approach has been throughout this entire pandemic. No back-up plans, no strategic vision, not putting kids' education first, etc. Wish we could just wipe it clean and start over!

"They've had a year" is so disingenuous. We knew nothing a year ago and there was much uncertainty. Duran didn't even start until June. This whole time, they have been making plans and adjusting them as we go as we learn more -- you just don't like those plans.

Wrong - APS is far behind almost every other school district in the county. Clearly it's too large of a school system for the current SB.

LIES. When APS announced RTS plans, 1/3rd of the schools in US were still virtual. And many of those were also overcrowded schools in dense areas.

APS has handled the pandemic just fine given the constraints.

Same situation in our family and many others that I have spoken too. The extremists shout the loudest, post their same views over and over. I believe that most of us are reasonable and want our kids in the safest most equitable way possible.
