Anyone hear from Michigan yet?

They probably assume UM isn't her first choice.

That's silly.

Same boat.

DC already professor/program/class "name dropped" (i.e., DC really looked at websites and published research and talked about overlapping interests) in the original supplemental essays. DC also gave other why Michigan reasons.

What else could they possibly be looking for? Especially with so many other deferred students, what could DC write that could stand out?

I don't blame DC for being flummoxed.

My deferred DC already went into detail on specific programs at Michigan they were interested in in the “Why Michigan” essay. DC is a legacy, so used the 250 word essay to talk about that connection and why they would attend if they get in. Good luck to everyone deferred!

My DC did it. I have posted about it before. Yes it makes a big school smaller but there are other ways to do that too. DC enjoyed the honors program the first year because of the honors only seminars and discussion groups. It was less important the second year. The preferred freshman housing was a big plus.

I'd add that I went to UMich and loved the size, you just have to get involved to have pockets of community. It's a really active student body so there is no shortage of orgs/interests with which to get involved, and I'll say the experience has served me well later on.

During orientation, they made the point, "you're not going to meet anyone sitting in your dorm room". There is literally a club for everything. Some people write for the Michigan Daily, others are politically active. Looking back, I only wish I was more involved.

Hard to do when you can't leave the dorm because of COVID, or when the dorms are closed, because of COVID.
