It is very sad that it's at this point, but it is and it's not going to get better.

Gavin Newsom is going to have a blast with all the appointments.

Yep.

Two Senators.

One Attorney General.

One Secretary of State.

Wait where’s Secretary of State Padilla going?

The rumor is that he's the frontrunner for Kamala's Senate seat. Then AG Becerra was just nominated for Secretary of Health and Human Services. And Feinstein's seat coming. Its like a game of musical chairs.

I don’t agree with all of AOC’s politics but I wish I had a rep and senators who advocate for their constituents as passionately as she does.

Katie Porter does. I'd love for Porter and Bass to be appointed to the Senate seats.

Can't take any more Dems out of the House - the majority margin is too slim. And especially not Katie Porter, who flipped her district from the GOP in 2018.

Yup, an average Democrat is not going to hold that seat. She’s exceptional and she needs to stay in the House for now.

Then the Jacobin Left came for Dianne Feinstein.

They’ve been after her for years. This is the mainstream, including her own staff.

Boo, but I understand. She's a star.

At what point can she be recalled?

Earlier in the thread it’s noted that California has no recall mechanism for Senators.

And the Senator doesn't have her recall mechanism either!

Pelosi has already said this is her last term.

It is going to be difficult because with such a slim House majority, it'll be hard to pluck democratic reps.

Um, there are plenty of safe California blue districts where a Dem will assuredly win any special election.

With only a 3 seat majority it's best not to take a chance on an upset, especially when you have plenty of capable people who aren't representatives.

Katie Porter will have way more impact and visibility in the House. Senate Dems still work on the seniority system, so she will just be at the bottom of the barrel and biding her time on unimportant committees.

The GOP does a much better job at grooming the next generation for major leadership roles, getting visibility for the young guns, etc. In the House, Porter can run committees.

I don't see this as difficult. California has a ridiculous deep bench of qualified Deputy Attorney Generals, retired House reps, Mayors, etc.

Bringing back Hilda Solis wouldn't be a bad idea for instance - former Congresswoman of nearly a decade and former Secretary of Labor.

It's not difficult, but it will be a disaster. The California machine that produced their big guns (like Feinstein and Newsom) is even more in entrenchment and self-dealing that national Democrats.
