You truly think Democrats would do differently in this situation?

It’s been the norm to allow someone to replace retiring or dead members/senators on their committees for a long time. If there is an example of Dems not allowing it, I’d like to see it.

Yes, there hasn't been a case where the Dems blocked the republicans from replacing a member on a committee because of their health like this. Totally unprecedented.

That would be a major blow to schiff’s chances and the California delegation would’ve gone from two Jewish senators (boxer and fienstein) to zero (becerra and Lee) if that happens.

If anything, I could see him appointing like Rep. Robert Garcia. The CA Democratic party is in dire need of new blood.

Why? Younger politicians and presidents do this as well. For example, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Bush Jr. and Bush Sr. all jogged in public when they were under 70.

Why wouldn't it make sense for Newsome if he is looking to build a more national profile and constituency for ambitions beyond California?
