It’s been the norm to allow someone to replace retiring or dead members/senators on their committees for a long time. If there is an example of Dems not allowing it, I’d like to see it. |
Yes, there hasn't been a case where the Dems blocked the republicans from replacing a member on a committee because of their health like this. Totally unprecedented. |
That’s quite the carbon footprint |
What a mess. She doesn’t know which side is up. |
Who knew Willie Brown is a “longtime friend of the Feinstein family”? |
Anyone familiar with San Francisco politics. |
|
About as long as Republicans will be trotting out Mitch McConnell, who looks like he's at death's door and recently had a very public (and sad) health event. He was mercilessly jeered at his most recent speech with people yelling "Retire!" https://nypost.com/2023/08/07/mitch-mcconnell-drowned-out-by-chants-of-retire-in-kentucky/ |

Pelosi and Jewish Dems are worried that Newsom is gonna appoint Barbara Lee if difi resigns/dies
That would be a major blow to schiff’s chances and the California delegation would’ve gone from two Jewish senators (boxer and fienstein) to zero (becerra and Lee) if that happens. |
Can we at least ban political ads that feature 70+ politicians engaging in "strenuous" physical activity as evidence of their vitality? |
First, Barbara Lee is 77. No, Newsome is not appointing someone that old. Further, the Af-Am constituency in California has been dropping fast - now down to only 7% of the state's population. If anything, I could see him appointing like Rep. Robert Garcia. The CA Democratic party is in dire need of new blood. Second, drop the weird anti-Semitic conspiracy. Jeez. |
Why? Younger politicians and presidents do this as well. For example, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Bush Jr. and Bush Sr. all jogged in public when they were under 70. https://mashable.com/article/presidential-shorty-shorts |
Newsom already promised that he will appoint a black woman if he is given the chance |
+1 there is no way Barbara Lee would be appointed since it would make no political sense for Newsome. |
Why wouldn't it make sense for Newsome if he is looking to build a more national profile and constituency for ambitions beyond California? |
