Exactly.
Let the Asians, who are discriminated on the basis of being a robotic monolith that only cares about academics and not about "diversity" or "equity" or "a well-rounded experience", hear this podcast and lets hear their opinions.

Asian person here. 🙋🏻‍♀️ I chose a home in a Title I school district for my kids. I’ve been very happy with our school so far but compared to other neighborhoods I’m sure lots of “nice white parents” think they’re not as good.

People of all races think that title 1 schools aren't as good.

This series is exposing that it’s not nearly so simple.

I've literally never heard this or anything like this expressed. I think it exposes that many MC/UMC white people wish there were "silver bullet" solutions to systemic racism, and so they interpret interventions that way. Then they feel betrayed when it turns out that their magical thinking doesn't work.

Of course the solution was never as simple as "diversity". And please point me to the AA families who are "often complicit" in perpetuating that messaging. Because I've never met any.

The latest clashes over redistricting was all about how diversity would bring all these benefits.

Many people, including Africans Americans, fought for redistricting in the name of diversity as if it was some kind of magic no brainer policy with no downside.

We’ve had decades of arguments for desegregation.

If diversity doesn’t really matter why do so many people fight for it?

Not hard to see why white families get the idea that simply reintegrating is some kind of noble act.

That one fundraiser guy really thought he was helping by bringing a cohort of white families in to bring about diversity.

Without his initiative it’s likely barely any of them would have showed up.

You guys have been slamming him, but I think if he had just communicated better this would have been a success story instead of a warning story.

Really? I got the impression that he realized that his kid was unlikely to get into one of the schools of choice; brainstormed the idea and then wrote the narrative which served mostly his and his counterparts interests. Had he not been faced with gettin shut out of the school he wanted his kids to go to he never would have given the school a first thought.

He was clear about this from the beginning.

He asked the principal, but he didn’t properly inform the PTA at the beginning.

The PTA were just told this guy was fundraising a bunch of money, and understandably, started daydreaming about how they’d use it.

Then they got the rug pulled out from under them when they found out they couldn’t use the money.

A better message at the start would have been, “hey, we’re getting a French immersion program, and we don’t have to pay for any of it!”

I think there would have been a lot less bad blood. Even better if the principal had announced it.

Well, this Asian*-American* is pretty fed up with white people exploiting discrimination against us to perpetuate a racism system that benefits them the most.

But 5 years later when the school was actually built, they didn't send their kids to the new school for several different reasons. The kids in the school were rough behavior wise; their reading scores were low, and the white parents wanted their kids to go to a progressive private school instead.

Is that the extent of it?

That’s the second episode... and only one parent actually visited the school and as the narrator rightly pushed on, the above “behavior and academic” tropes are inherently racist.

Tropes? If that’s what the kids were that’s not a trope or racist. It’s the truth.

Soooo if you benefited equally it would be cool.

And let's not speak on the reputation Asians and Asian Americans have of being racist against black people.

So nice white parents are supposed to voluntarily dumb down their own kids so that non whites can catch up and we all join up in the resulting muddle in the middle?

Sorry to have to break the news to you but the competition for the poors in America is not the children of the nice white parents in America.

If only life was that easy!

The rest of the world is rightfully practicing elite education and going all in on promoting their best and the brightest - not their worst and their dumbest.

Why do you think the USA is at the bottom of global educational comparisons?

Wrong minded altruism.

Nice white parents need to stop being so nice and start looking out for their own.

If you can't raise your own kids on your own then forget about having kids and forget about expecting others to raise them properly for you - just to make you feel equal.

Well the point is that nice white parents are politely continuing to act in the best interest (real or perceived) of their own children.

Wow. Would you like to say that again with your real name attached? I'm sure your employer would be interested in hearing your views.

That's not the issue in the podcast. The issue is that these parents have a lot of other choices for their children's education, but they chose to go to this underperforming, majority minority school, and instead of being full, equal participants in the school, they essentially created a separate track (including separate fundraising) for their own children, and disrespected the existing culture and power structure of the school.

In an ideal world everyone would bend a bit.

Have your fancy fundraisers for French but direct some of that money to the general pta.

I think French immersion was open to everyone. Didn't they mention an arab/turkish student?

Pretty sure this is going over the heads of every race living in North Arlington. Easy to just blame whites but plenty of AA and Asians chose NA for the good schools and are wringing hands over AAP in parts of Fairfax.
