I hit a goose and now my neighborhood is at war

Sure. So is my neighbor. Doesn’t mean I want to see him in pain after a car accident.

DP. Ok, but you know we aren't talking about a person here, right?

DP but I'm trying to understand your point here. I agree that geese are territorial and unpleasant. But I would not intentionally drive into one just because I didn't want to wait for a gaggle of them to cross the street. I am deeply annoyed by deer and see them all the time in our neighborhood but I don't try to kill them because they bug me. Okay, we all agree that geese are ornery. So what? It's okay to drive over one for no reason? It's not like OP was going to eat the bird, she just killed it out of impatience. That mindset is extremely messed up, even if geese aren't cuddly. And they're not.

Come on. OP didn't deliberately hit the goose; she misjudged how slowly they were moving and how incredibly stupid they are. She didn't drive over it for no reason, she drove over it because the dumb things walk everywhere when they can fly out of the way of oncoming traffic like every other bird in creation.

Can't believe these dumb animals are protected as "migratory" birds. If they migrated, they wouldn't be here in February.

OMG, I can't believe there are people as dumb as you. They are CANADIAN GEESE. DC's mild winters are 'flying south for the winter" to them. AKA MIGRATING.

There are a number of Canada geese that no longer migrated l, they live here year round. Ugh.

Op here.
Yes, this is why I’m hiding out on DCUM instead of even looking at NextDoor or the list serve. Apparently I am being tarred and feathered on both (pun fully intended) and apparently I was now driving recklessly and plowed down the entire flock per an eyewitness.

Thank you to the poster for making me giggle with the thought of me cuddling this giant bird as it died.

I really thought of it like running over a squirrel, and was trying my best to maneuver around them.

Aholes like you are making our streets dangerous...you’re the type to mow down kids because of impatience/texting.

OP here... this is a good example of the haranguing I’m getting on my neighborhood site.

And they know my name from the description of my car but the moderator apparently took it down. But “everyone” knows my identity as the goose killer

Seriously, OP, just forget about the whole thing! To make you feel better, people are actually killing pedestrians - and oftentimes there are no charges filed! One dead goose is just that, a dead goose.

I hope you are reported to the authorities. Its not funny and not ok to just randomly kill living things.

Op here. Yes. It was still. Not moving. On the ground. It was most likely dead.

I know now this is not like running over a turtle, squirrel, possum, or any other wildlife.

I also agree I will not be invited to the Christmas Ladies Ornament Exchange this year because the social chair of the HOA hosts it and apparently was out there with a shovel trying to give it a proper burial next to the pond.

I think it was a mistake and don’t get the impression op would make the decision to try to edge by them again. I hope you are a strict vegan.

This is hilarious but I think you have to move now.

PP probably eats chicken every day. But I'm sure she does it seriously, with respect.

OK, I just lost all sympathy for you. Killing this (admittedly annoying) animal, or leaving it to suffer in the middle of the road, isn’t giggle-worthy.

I’m not sure we’re getting the real lowdown from OP. Geese are huge, and if you “nick” one it loses a few feathers and keeps on trucking. And geese don’t “graze” on suburban roads unless you live in Appalachia or somewhere with dirt roads.

our Nextdoor is absolutely ridiculous! I get on when I'm bored, and read the back and forth debates on the stupidest shit! That said, OP - I would delete your account. And I would get a security camera to make sure no one is going to try to vandalize your property or attempt to confront you at your home.

My suggestion is to pony up for a proper headstone. Maybe it will earn you some goodwill.

Don't waste the goose. At least cook and eat it.
