Is cruising tacky?

Anonymous
On DCUM cruising is bad for the environment, but living in a 4,000sf home is OK?!?!?

Why cruise?
Why not just just to Disney World?

We’ve traveled all over the world, stayed at luxury places, don’t use tour groups, buses whatever. But one of the best vacays we took as a family involved renting an RV and driving all over the western US. Many would consider this tacky. SIL went on a New Edition cruise. Eye rolling and tacky. For sure. But who gives a crap. Life is too sort to worry about what the neighbors think.

This is exactly right. I can't stand cruises, and won't willingly go on another one. But that's because of my own preferences, not concern that someone will think it is "tacky." Give me a break.

Asking if something is "tacky" is tacky. It's your life do what you enjoy.

They are really different. Rollercoasters versus snorkeling, for starters.

We do both, happily, and do not give two $hits if someone on DCUM thinks we are tacky. We are happy, the kids are happy. That’s all that matters to us! DH and I even went to WDW without our kids once!

It was a sailboat, not a fking cruise ship.

NP. I read through the thread. Your problem with your environmental argument is you have no idea how to scale the impact on a per-capita basis. Cruise ships have a lot of emissions because they carry 5,000 passengers. Evaluated comparatively per individual, they’re very efficient.

It’s like you slept through fourth grade math.

Oh really? Show me the proof of that, if you’re so confident.

I see. You only care about yourself. Selfish.

I care about lots of things. But your opinion of me is not one of them.

Anonymous wrote:Cruises are amazing. I used to think they were tacky, but I had never been on one before. I would definitely do one again, if they weren’t so expensive. I have heard only good things about Disney cruises. I used to teach, and the kids who went came back glowing.

Doesn’t change the horrible impact on the environment. It’s really awful and much worse than most other vacation options.

Why are you even in the travel thread. You cannot possibly vacation anywhere besides your backyard bc I refuse to believe you use a car, airplane, train or any public transportation. With your holier than thou attitude you must be working in soup kitchens, clothing the homeless, reading to bedridden vets, and other charity during your vacation time.

Nothing sadder than adults without kids going to Disney. This whole beautiful wide world to explore...

And you are giving all your money to the poor, widowed and fatherless? You leave nothing in your savings, investment and bank account, so you can provide for all the penniless in this world? You’ve opened your massive home to house the many homeless in this country? You feed the homeless everyday and refuse to take a paycheck from greedy government or corporations?

Give me a break. We’re all selfish to a degree. Get over yourself. You sound miserable and I feel sorry for your kids and husband to have to deal with your judgment on a daily basis. Must be taxing for them.
