This isn’t true

I predict that it will be next Thursday or Friday in the portal

How did the MS’ers get their Acceptances/Rejections this year? Letter or Portal?

I am expecting Cogat results in the portal next Friday and decisions in postal box by Saturday.

Why mail box when it clearly says that decisions will be in the portal late January?

The middle schoolers got CogAT in the Portal, decisions by mail.

Yes but they do each level differently and for HS decisions it may just be in the portal

It might be true for the non-test in magnets of downtown consortium that were lottery based but this
is not true for the magnets that required testing.

Why the decision is taking so long with new format? They have all information by 1st week of Nov and Cogat information right away.

It's not just based on test scores. There are committees that review all of the data to do selection. Those committees meet in mid-January.

Test scores can be released as soon as they become available while the committees are still reviewing all other data.

And fuel even more parent speculation and gnashing of teeth by releasing scores before a decision is made? Ugh, no. Recipe for disaster.

This does not make sense. And it is not true that the students share many classes with non-magnet kids. At least when my son attended there were Magnet courses grades 9 - 10 for all academic courses, only non-academic and nonIB courses were with the whole school. Makes no sense to make the JW families and kids wait if that is still the expected plan. Unless they don't have their act together in administration and counseling. Don't be surprised if there are new changes to the Magnet program revealed once the selected students are notified. The school will need to line up with the rest of the regional programs, so when it becomes a regional program it won't be a noticeable change.

Correct me if I am wrong but unlike Wootton, RM has a county-wide IB magnet program, to which applied a whole
LOT of kids from the entire MoCo. MCPS will notify students who got accepted into test-in magnet programs including
IB at RM by the end of January. Many kids will get accepted to more then one program. Nobody knows when the
decisions letters will arrive to the homes of the students. It is fairly logical speculation that MCPS did the right
decision to give some time for the letters to arrive and then some more for the students to decide weather
to accept the invitation to the program, choose if accepted to more or decline. It is a process.

One could assume that the Early February date is set to accommodate the time needed for all the letters
to arrive and for all the kids to sort their situation. That will give all the kids both magnet and non magnet
equal chance to register to the shared classes at RMIB since magnet kids do share many classes with
non-magnet kids.

This is not a fact, this is an opinion.

That makes sense. Non-magnet high schools have it in January and magnet high schools wait until February?
