Who are the top 05 Girl's teams

Arlington won't play FCV until March, but you don't need to wait until FCV game to see Arlington's style of play. You can come to any of their games and see for yourself. You won't see tiki-taka or even a team that consistently plays out of the back.

Ok, we have some results posted to start assessing the strength of local 05 ECNL teams.

Mclean: 4 wins in 4 games, 12 goals scored, 2 goals allowed, goal difference +10. They look like the team to beat so far.
VDA: 1 win and 1 loss in 2 games, 4 goals scored, 4 goals allowed, goal difference is 0. They played two close games against good clubs so I think they will be very competitive;
BRYC: 1 loss and 1 tie in 2 games. 1 goal scored, 6 goals allowed, goal difference -5. It is too early to tell. I am not going to write them off based on one lopsided loss.
Loudoun 1 win, 1 loss in 2 games; 5 goals allowed, 4 goals scored, goal difference -1. Similar to BRYC, it is too early to tell.
Richmond United (semi-local) 1 win, 1 tie, 1 loss, goals scored 8, goals allowed 6, goal difference +2. To early to tell, they dismantled Loudoun, had a close loss to VDA and a tie against BRYC.

Mclean: 4 wins in 4 games, 12 goals scored, 2 goals allowed, goal difference +10. They look like the team to beat so far in Mid Atlantic ECNL.

Will have to wait until the Spring for FCV to play Arlington and Bethesda 05 to play any ECNL games.

Unfortunately, Bethesda is not in the same ECNL division as the others mentioned above so there is no immediate head to head results. The other two are DA programs. It is harder to judge their relative strength because they rarely play against each other or against other local competition. I believe FCV won't play Arlington until Spring, although one would expect that FCV will not have too hard of a time against Arlington. Last year, FCV beat Arlington in U15 age group 5-2 and 5-0. Arlington did tie them 2-2 once, but overall it is not difficult to tell which of the two clubs had a stronger team.

Arlington did beat Baltimore Armour this weekend and plays Metro United Oct 5.

It is going to be very difficult to compare the relative strengths of top DA team, to Mid Atlantic ECNL team, and Bethesda ECNL team.

Ok so FCV is number 1

But who is number 2 McLean, Bethesda, Arlington, or Metro United?

I’m more confused not less now that Arlington and Metro played.

It is hard to argue who is #1. Bethesda ECNL might end up as the best team by the end of the year but even in their case, unless they beat several good DA teams, it will be hard to make the case but if they beat PDA, it will be hard to argue differently. I believe PDA hammered FCV ina winter showcase.

Agreed it is very hard to compare the DA teams with ECNL teams at the upper ages. DA teams rarely play in non DA showcases at least currently.

You can’t point to some game from over a year ago with a common competitor. Teams change. A single games outcome may not be representative of how strong a team is or is not.

Who cares about top teams. Who are the best players? We can talk about the best teams when the players are getting paid and we can make money betting on those teams.
Anonymous
Better teams are better because they have better players. This is exactly why you have more college coaches at ECNL and DA showcases than non-ECNL/DA showcases.

But it’s really only the couple of better players that are making a difference

How is that different than what was said. The better teams are comprised of some of the best players.

Seen all the best 05G teams. For years. My kid has played with and against them. Here are the counts of top players from each squad. 17 total. Would make one heck of a Balt/DC “all-area” team.

Pipe 4
Beth 3
McLean 2
Vda 1
Arl 1
FCV 5
Loud 1
