Young kids can’t go from 7 am until 4 pm! Do you have little kids? I’m not for the snacking all the time but this is crazy.

This is why there is a serious obesity epidemic. Young children do not need to eat greasy convenience food. If they are hungry between meals they should get an apple out of the fruit bowl, sit on the front doorstep and have a nice, healthy, nutritious snack. They do not need a bacon, nacho cheese, funion burger.

OMG shut it! Poster said she went to Panera. Know what my kids eat at Panera? Black bean soup and an apple. Or turkey sandwich on wheat - with an apple.

But no, better keep my preschooler starving for 9 hours so we have room for Mimi’s mayo drenched potato salad and a Pinterest inspired red white and blue dessert!!! What are you serving at your BBQ? Grilled tofu and veggies?

Omg god forbid! All that fiber and protein!

To be clear I’m mocking someone having an issue with black bean soup

No need to be dramatic. Your preschooler will be fine eating some fruit as a light snack. My spread is full of healthy choices and doesn’t involve heavy or oily foods. We eat mostly a Mediterranean diet that is healthy and filling.

np: I think you are a troll, albeit an entertaining one. If not a troll, I doubt you ever had kids.

In all seriousness, BKL don’t you realize that ALL of your guests must talk about your terrible hosting practices? Doesn’t it bother you to know that visits to your home result in gossiping, venting and mocking? I’d be so ashamed to know that guests in my home are left feeling so uncared for

There is no seriousness with a troll. At least this one is entertaining and not leading to people writing multiple paragraphs of advice to respond to lies.

Not all of us have access to fruit in a closed kitchen, BKL.

My FIL licks his fingers all the time when in the kitchen. I walked in and was offered a bagel...he was "manning" the toaster. I said, "I'd like to toast my own" and was straight-up told that "then you won't be having one," because FIL was in charge of the toaster.

So I said, "no thank you" and got a piece of plain bread, buttered it, and put a few other things on my plate. Everyone started asking me what was wrong.

I didn't say a word, but I'll say here that I am disgusted by people who lick their fingers and then handle food.

I am not a troll, and I have a wonderful family. My kids are healthy athletic and successful. Not that I have to prove anything to you

My FIL won't let me get my own Keurig coffee in his house. insists on doing it himself and then asks half a dozen questions about variety/size.

...you can’t walk through any room in this house without banging your shins and shimmying around at least one piece of furniture, I just gave the house it’s annual sweep, there is a bumbling caldron of soup made from a meat and seafood stock that spent the night on the porch...so just the usual complaints.

Do you seriously think small children should go from 7AM to 4PM with only an apple in between? Do you not feed your children lunch?

If I am serving a late lunch/early dinner bbq at 4pm, I would not expect to have a pre-lunch/dinner meal especially if I had just eaten a big bowl of cereal that morning. If you really must eat, a delicious piece of fruit should be enough to sustain them until the bbq starts. I always keep a well stocked fruit bowl on the breakfast bar - you don't need to enter the kitchen - just grab an apple, banana, orange or pear, go sit outside in the fresh air and enjoy!

The 4th of July bbq spread is a much heavier meal than one would usually eat. I can't imagine eating a big, salty, heavily processed turkey sandwich from Panera only to turn right around and eat bbq just a few hours later.

This last one is pretty good. But are You thé RÉAL PP, or just a good facsimile ?

I love my in-laws. I’ve known them since I was 15. I’m 52. But this has been a rough visit. My MIL is an alcoholic. Normally fairly functional. This week, not so much. And she gets mean when she is drunk. We don’t typically keep much alcohol in the house. She actually brought her own and hid it in Gatorade bottles. They leave tomorrow morning.

The positive - My FIL is wonderful! And they took us out for a nice brunch today.
