S/O - What’s up with AEM?

Then, when asked directly, they say they "think" she prosecuted it b/c it became clear she wasn't the CA back then. When that was called out as false, as well, they still offer no apology or choose to remove the blatant falsehood.

So, the people accusing the GOP of spreading propaganda in AEM are responsible for promoting false information themselves. Color me surprised!

I'm a long-time Dem. and find myself feeling an instinct to vote against anyone the hijackers promote.

+1. I’m conflicted and turned off by their behavior. I’m all for not overcharging small crimes, refusing to prosecute marijuana possession, and restoring voting rights. But I hate the misrepresentations that seem to be made by Parisa and her supporters. I hate the hypocrisy of how they treated the police officer’s post on AEM and called for it to be removed after their constant campaigning. The claim that his post was overly emotional and “threatening” also seemed just like a BS way of shutting down people with opposing views. And ad hominem attacks on people are super pathetic — you should be able to defend your positions with logic and reasoning rather than pointing to where someone works. I don’t want to support those tactics.

Yes and the tactic of labeling a really hard unfortunate situation as "police brutality" really turned me off.

Parisa is going to have to work WITH the police if elected.

It suggests she has an office policy of doing so, which as the mother of girls, who I assume bear the brunt of this type of behavior, is not necessarily a crazy position to me.

It’s on AEM now, as presented it’s a ridiculous overreach by Stamos. Unfortunately I don’t feel like I can trust information from the Dehghani-Tafti campaign to be accurate so who knows what the real story is.

This. A couple of vague tweets without additional context are hard to follow. However, if a kid didn’t share the images I have a huge problem with any sort of prosecution or school discipline for that matter. But, I will still vote for Stamos. I’m not a one issue voter on this. Parisa has zero prosecutorial experience. It is a big job that requires making a lot of decisions and doing something. Not going to vote for someone wiith no experience running on what they won’t do.

+1. If it’s true as presented I’d vote for Parisa, or at least not turn out for Stamos, but I just don’t trust anything Parisa or her supporters say anymore. I need to give it like a week to see if someone corrects the story.

I don’t trust the Paris’s campaign, either. There may be more to this story than what has been shared.

I am done with AEM. It was a really useful FB group when it started a few years ago, and I used it regularly to connect with PTA leaders at other schools to share ideas. I also found it useful to follow the news about plans to build (or not build) new high school seats-- that seemed to change by the day, and it was nice that parents who attended the various work sessions would post what happened. However, AEM is a complete waste of time now. With 3,000+ members, it has lost any sense of community or connection to APS. Now it has just become another platform for people to repost articles, spread rumors and false information, and bicker with each other over the same political topics that you can fight about on a million other FB pages. I find myself coming back to DCUM now for news about APS, which is ironic because I had pretty much stopped reading this website when AEM went live a few years ago. At least here I can find the topics that interest me more easily without having to scroll through 8 zillion reposts of WaPo, ArlNow, and random political endorsement alerts.

I had hope when someone recently created an alternative to AEM, primarily to get away from all of the “screens are bad” posts, but so far it’s a big nothingburger.

I don't like the overfocus on screens but that one poster is SO annoying that I'm coming around on screens.

Probably b/c most people don't know about it.

I wish CCPTA would create a FB for verified PTA volunteers, where we could all share information and ideas again. Rule #1 would be no more posting of links to random articles. We can all google search and read on our own, thank you very much. It should be a site where PTA volunteers can post questions and solicit ideas. Parents who attend APS work sessions could post summaries of what happened for everyone else. And on issues where there is a clear consensus and a need for unified advocacy (i.e., the APS budget, capacity problems, etc.), we could come together to talk about how to influence the County Board most effectively. That's how AEM started out, but it has strayed SO FAR from that now.

I like this idea.

Also, I have no idea who to vote for in the CA race. We definitely need some reforms but Parisa's misrepresentations, like the "police brutality" really turn me off. Wish there was another option.

There already is one: ARL/ALEX PTA Leader Central

It is not super active, but it is very focused.

Agree 100%. Used to be helpful but now all about politics and god forbid you disagree. I unfollowed. It’s unfortunate.

The dad tweeted about it. My guess is he might not have sent pics to others but sounds like they were showing them to others. What’s would Tafti have done in Stamos place? Tell the parents of the person — a girl classmate, I imagine — that it is just boys being boys and no punishment is necessary?

A boy shows pics of my girl to others (most likely not consensual anyway)...... Yep- prosecute.

A lot of details were left out there.
