OMG, that sounds like it was written by an angry child of an overachiever. Not a blanket indictment of Mclean parents. |
Longfellow mom checking in. All of my son's friends' parents work, moms and dads. I don't know whether I'm feeding a troll but the premise that Mclean moms don't work is completely false. When my son was in grade school maybe 20% of the moms stayed home(doing God knows what all day) but once the kids are old enough to go home alone they returned to work. Aside from the chronically lazy, who wouldn't? |
Early retirement and enjoy life....ever heard of it? I mean work is great and all but I can think of a million things I would rather do. No job is really that important. |
| Make a decision based on the high school, assuming your kids stay in public. If you plan on sending to private in hs, the you have more options. |
lol. The mom that immediately came to mind is a pediatric oncologist. Talk about irrelevant professions. You need to check your privilege if you consider stopping working at 38 as 'early retirement' |
Hate to say it but she is replaceable too. People here need to get over how important they think they are. |
|
What an odd comment and bizarre point of view.
You choose to ignore (and therefore arguably give tactic approval of) a poster's claim of enjoying 'early retirement' -about 10 years after most of us with PG degrees finish school- to diminish the work of a woman whose sole purpose in life is saving the lives of sick children. Is this how you make yourself feel relevant while you sit on your fat ass watching Ellen in a 1.5 million dollar house spending your husband's money? "Oh, welllll, she's just a doctor that keeps kids alive, her shit stinks just like everyones!!!" WTF? |
|
What a messy thread.
Op, I’m staying put in fairfax alexandria. People are down to earth and friendly, and happy with the public school system. The kids seem very happy, too, and not stressed out. The college stickers on the back of cars run the gamut, and people are content. There are tons of families, and also those that remain in the area even after empty nest. Best of luck. |
| It is a noble career choice that will pay the bills for the finer things that McLean has to offer like the sizable faux Italian villa on 123 - boxed wine and all. |
| Where do you see all these faux Tuscan villas? All I'm seeing is Craftsman and older Colonial. Do you go to some secret places on rt 123? |
You should move to Mclean because: - better ES. Churchill, Franklin Sherman or Chesterbrook are excellent ES. I would not go to Kent Gardens. too big for me, > 1000 students - better MS. Longfellow MS is the best public school in the state of VA. It has the highest number of students going to TJ. Rachel Carson is 2nd on the list if you live in Oakton - better HS. Mclean HS is the 2nd best school, after TJ, in VA, according to US News Report. If your kid does not get accepted to TJ, Mclean HS is not that bad either If you have $$$ to burn, Little Langley, BASIS and Potomac is right around the corner. It is a win-win situation. Last but not least, Mclean has lot of Asians so your kids can start learning Chinese at an early age

Is it the same poster always posting "check your privilege" recently? It is getting old. |
I guess you must be blinded by all of the Stucco and Plaster. McLean is the Klassy place to live. |
When one place has the most expensive housing in the region and the best schools in the state, that elicits more than a little resentment. |
| Yes. Move. |
