enough said. what an embarrassment.

This made me want to send my kid to Brown. Thanks!

I really hope you are being sarcastic.

Different poster here. That Brown video is awesome. I'd send my kid there too.

^then you have serious issues and i feel sorry for you. this video shows the death of intellectualism, of the ability to think critically and engage in free speech and dialogue. brown is doing nothing to prevent this, in fact it encourages it. and you would want to send your kid there?!

The issue is more along the lines of:

A. You're kidding yourself if you think it's any different at any of the other top colleges in the US
B. That one or two videos can be used as representative of a large university with a large student body with a diverse range of opinions and feelings

Or C that 15-20 loud obnoxious students defines a school.

I doubt these rabble rousers kept their views secret on their apps. Brown accepted these nut jobs because that's the vibe they want to cultivate.

Not a huge fan of Brown, but all colleges accept a range of kids. Including some passive watchers and some rabble rousers and some kids from each political persuasion. If you're upset that Brown accepted a handful of rabble rousers, there's not a lot we can do to help you.

No it is not the same to the other top colleges, not to this extent. I know for a fact that this level of hysteria does not exist at a lot of other ivies and elites, and most importantlythe administration at those schools does not encourage or incite it like they do at Brown and Yale.

To be fair, there is a reason these videos exist for Brown and Yale but not for other ivies. All ivies are liberal but these two are plagued by militant liberalism even by Ivy League standards.

And yet my very mild-mannered and politically agnostic DC loved Brown much more than the 25 other schools visited over the past 4 years. Go figure ...

Fine, fine, we get it, don't apply to Brown and Yale! Less competition for my child

Since we are busting on schools for their videos, did you ever see Yale's musical video That's Why I Chose Yale? Check it out, then watch the Harvard spoof:

Got a neighbor kid, great kid, one of those over-achievers. Got his undergrad at Brown, then spent a few years traveling in asia teaching english and learning languages... then went back and got his masters at Harvard, now getting Ph. D. in Math at Harvard also... he says, without hesitation, Brown is the most intellectually stimulating community he has ever been part of.

Anecdotal to be sure, but the idea that it is somehow intellectually inferior to its peer schools seems crazy and without foundation.

As for resources, a quick google says Harvard has $37B in endowment, Brown only $3B, so yeah, Harvard will have more resources.

Given that he's attended Brown and Harvard, it's not surprising he considers Brown to have been the more intellectually stimulating. People at Harvard tend to do more talking than listening.
